HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

rear shocks
With my conversion using the C5 trans what size rear spring with torsion bars removed would you all think would be good. A member has two ground control units with 600 pound springs, would this be enough with the extra trans weight? Are these a good choice.

Re: rear shocks
If you do a bit of digging in the suspension sub-forum at the site locostusa.com you should be able to find a spreadsheet that can be used to generate recommended spring (and sway bar) rates based on some input data. You will probably need to do some measuring (and possibly a bit of math) to get the input values needed, but that should get you into a suspension that basically works correctly, and can be fine tuned from there.
Desired spring rate will depend on the suspension's motion ratio, and how the the frequencies of the front and rear suspension compare. Trial and error (and a lot of parts swapping) can get to something that works, but for the best answer you need to do some research. The book "Tune to Win" by Carroll Smith is a good place to start. I also usually recommend "Drive to Win" to help tighten up someone's driving style and to help make sure they accurately determine if a vehicle dynamics problem is being caused by the car or the driver.
Also there is a huge wealth of quality information and references to good outside resources available at LocostUSA.com as well. Enough reading in the suspension forum there should also be able to answer any vehicle dynamics questions you have.

Need much more information about your setup to even make a guess. Having said that, springs are relatively cheap and you will likely end up with more than one set before you find exactly what you want.

Re: rear shocks
I have 500 or 600 fronts and 700 rears right now with torsion bar delete.
I just picked up a set of scales so I can actually weigh the car, and get it all figured out/ Hoping to shave another second or two off of auto x times next year.
