HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Welcome, best advice I can give you is before you start asking questions please learn how to do an advanced search then spend a few evenings looking at the wealth of information available on this site.
Most, if not all problems/procedures have been addressed and photographed.

Just decided to do a swap Empty Re: Just decided to do a swap

I suppose it's different for everyone. I started by machining the bell housing and adapter plate so that I could bolt the engine to the torque tube. Then I mocked up the motor mounts and crossmember spacers. I think there is a nice tubular crossmember out there somewhere. You can get a lot of parts from texas performance concepts, I made mine, but I had some time on my hands.

Cheers

I have a build thread for the early part of my swap.  I haven't kept it up to date very well recently.  If you look on page 5 I think I've got some stuff on uprights.

Like Luke said, read through this site. You will learn a lot, get confused at some times, I don't think there are 2 swaps that are identical. Since I am not a machinist I bought the kit from TPC. It has everything you need to get the engine in. I have my engine in, but somehow I have the mounts a little crooked, so its time to drop the front suspension out again. Depending on your budget, think about buying a complete donor car from a salvage yard, so you can use what you need, and sell the rest on craigslist or ebay. Or if you are doing it on a budget like me just gather up the parts you need on craigslist or ebay. I am doing my swap on a 87 n/a, that was a stripped roller, rust free Florida then Oklahoma car. I am doing a "3 way" conversion. 4 cyl to 2000 Vette Ls1, automatic to manual, early suspension on late model car. By the way, the interior is 90% complete now , all the electrical on the car side works now, and the body work is almost all done. Hope to be driving by summer time.

Congrats on making the decision! I think that's the hardest part - the rest of the build is just frustration.
Read up on what you need and just follow what others have done. Lots of swaps out there and the knowledge base is huge. Where you located and what is your plan for the car? Street/track?

either go thru the posts and save diagrams and pix that can be used as reference. or as each item u start to do look up the stuff and then save and print so u dont have to keep running back to look it up. a pic is worth a lot on how people get these done.
