HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Steering rack drop down Empty Steering rack drop down

Post  Admin Sat Jun 20, 2009 12:45 pm

If I made a tubular cross member that clearend the stock oil pan on the V8 I would need to drop the Steering rack down a little also. What could be done at the tie rod end to get the geometry back to the right place? xschop? Anyone?

MMMM....I would maybe want one....
The Ti-rod drop down kit I designed is the ticket I will post up pics in the next day or so.
I dropped my X-member down 1" so far and I maybe do another 3/8. I like the Idea of a lower Center of Gravity that the stock 944 engine Very Happy

With this drop, my steering intermediate shaft is now too short. When I connect it where the column enters through the firewall, it's only off about 1/2" or so, enough that I can't get the pinch bolt in. Should the shaft be lengthened, or should the pinch bolt "groove" be lengthened? Something else I'm not thinking of?

Hey Johnny. I lengthened mine by 1.25" because my X-member is dropped 1.25"
I wish I would have measuered the 944 PS shaft before the mod. I believe that an inexpensive alternative could have been found that has more compact U-joints on it that clear the Motor mount area better than the factory u-joints, it's close in there.

Ive been waiting for someone to tackle this! You should design it around the stock 2008 vette pan = low profile and close to the moroso pan. That would be awesome. But im sure you have something better in mind. Would have loved not to have to use a remote oil filter and lines and anything else that has to be done because of the OE x-member.

This would be the greatest thing developed for the 944 v8 conversions since the TT-C5 adapter plate!
Go getem Eric! Very Happy

Xschop.... its matt from over on PHB I have finally come over here... I don't have enough posts yet to send a PM or I would. Can you send me some or post up some info on the final design you came up with for the tie rod drop down kit? I am looking to change a few things around on my car. I have the entire thing all torn back apart for paint and a stroker motor so it seems like a good time for me to make a change like this. I am not sure yet but I may have to add a deeper pan to my engine to make room for my stroker crank. I don't know yet but if I have to then I will definately require some changes i n the cross member and rack.

Thanks

Steering rack drop down Empty Whu ?

I designed 5/8" Bump-steer drop pins out of 4130 steel that require you to Drill and REAM your spindle knuckles to 0.625" (5/8"). It allows you to buy inexpensive 5/8" Heim joints (don't be a cheap ass...TEFLON lined) and Toyota Inner Tie rods for the Power steering rack and VW Rabbit inner rods for the manual racks. 1.00 to 2.125" drop at the knuckle can be obtained with the new 5/8" "toplocker" nuts.

I will read up on the modification. Thanks.

I haven't been over on that board either actually. I got tired of reading all the arguing. I have checked back a couple of times in the last few months and its a ghost town. I was too busy driving my car to be reading about them but now its back to work.
