HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

What does it take to get the 944 turbo trans in a na car?

Post  DrBoost on Thu Oct 31, 2013 2:08 pm

I've been reading the posts here, and talked with the previous owner of my car (he started the conversion) but have a few questions.
I have an 84 944 with the LS1 in place. I don't expect to do much more than LS3 heads, mild cam, and LS6 intake, so we're not talking insane power levels here. I (think) know that the best bang for the buck is just using a 944 turbo (951?) trans with the 5th gear from my N/A car. My question is this:
Will it bolt right in or do I need do do some fabbing?
Do I need the subframe?
The previous owner said the car has turbo front suspension, but stock rear suspension (but turbo calipers). And for that reason, it has rear spacers to match the front track. Should I get the 944T suspension or something aftermarket (I do NOT want the spacers).

I think that's it. And thanks for helping.

Clarks garage has a good write up on removing and replacing the transmission.

My instructions would be

Remove old NA transmission
Install new Turbo transmission.

Clean up......................you're done!

Trans swap

Post  simon123 on Thu Oct 31, 2013 6:42 pm

Make sure that your NA trans has the tall 5th, I swapped mine (1988) into a Turbo trans only to find out that I had swapped like for like. Check you NA trans model number against the ratio charts.
Tall fifth needs to be 27/37.

Thanks admin.
Simon, where's this chart you speak of?? Sounds like something I need to know before I start the work.

Thanks to both of you.

This may help you on the gearing ratio. This is also from Clarks garage.

Hope it helps.

Ratio's

Post  simon123 on Fri Nov 01, 2013 9:33 am

My 88 NA had the 35/29 5th which was the same 5th gear ratio in the Turbo LSD Trans I acquired.
You also need the special splined wrench to undo the big bolt. There is a DIY article on Clarkes.

I have obtained the correct 5th gear and intend to change it in the car. Will post details (cutting spare wheel well) when it happens.
