For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

My understanding is that if you have a Gen IV ECM that originally had DBW, then it can't be used with a cable setup. You CAN use your Gen IV engine with cable throttle, but you'll need to use an older ECM and harness or modify a Gen IV harness. I decided to keep the DBW on my conversion (not done yet).

Some of the DBW ECU's will work for the DBC setup. You have to check the part number and the service number of the ECU, the use the appropriate program on the ECU.

Why would you want to convert it to a cable setup? Having gone the DBW route myself, I don't understand why you'd want to go any other way (especially if the engine is already built for DBW). I was intimidated at first (many here will attest to that), but after you get past the minor wiring challenges it's bulletproof!

^ Absolutely! Its really quite easy and straight-forward. If you already have the DBW throttle body and pedal, why not give it a shot.

What year is the 5.3 from and what ECM does it have? Some have the TAC integrated - I know my E38 ECM does not need an external TAC.

Anyone have pictures of how you mounted the DBW pedal in the 944? Did you make a bracket or mount for it?

Here's a couple...just used the bracket that is part of the pedal...I did the bottom bolt/stud 1st...made sure the pedal was positioned correctly...then the top bolt/stud.

Looking into the brake MC access hole in the firewall you can just make out the top corner of the DBW bracket at about the 7 o'clock position of the hole and just to the left, the DBW pedal's top (painted white) hex cap bolt/stud...an M10.

At the 2 ½ “ position and the 6 ½” position you can barely see the two (painted white) hex cap bolts behind the ruler that I used as the bracket mounting studs. I'll probably make the bottom stud longer and add a nut behind the bracket to adjust the pedal toward the driver a little bit. I think the pedal was from an ‘07 Silverado.  btw...those tubes are the fuel line & return...this is an 'early' so don't get confused.

I think the biggest difference between the early ECM (12200411) and the late ECM (e38, e40) is the early is a 24x system and the TAC module is a separate part. The late ECM doesn't need an external TAC it's built into and it's a 58x system. I looked at both and if you're rebuilding your engine it's pretty easy to either replace the 24x reluctor wheel with a 58x one or use the converter from Ligenfelter Performance. Personally I am going with the early ECM and on the hunt for a TAC module part number 19245405. I think if you go to the junk yard and find a car or truck with a TAC module (mounted under the brake booster just buy the wire from the TAC to the ECM in its entirety and your wiring is done, well you may have to lengthen the wires to fit your conversion but that is of little consequence.
