Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Chesapeake PCA Autocross - 11 May
Well, it had to happen sooner or later - I snapped my first set of axles. Installed the turbo S transmission (with LSD) that I picked up a couple weeks ago, and it looks like the combination of the Toyo R888's and the power finally hitting the street the way it needed to was just too much for the wimpy 24mm axles that have been reliably overcoming inertia for the past several years. Investment has been made in a set of race-prepped VW bus axles and CV Joints (Dan's Performance Parts) in preparation for the DC Pro Solo event next month. Launching will be mandatory there!!

Sorry to hear that! The new axles sound like a good investment though. Can you post a link to the parts you are getting? Are they a direct swap with the stock parts? How much hp are you currently running?

Thanks to Mike (87-944s), he turned me on to Dan's performance parts, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Fortunately the VW heritage of the 944 is strong in the transaxle design. Type I/Type II (Thing/VW Transporter) CV joints are direct replacements. As for the axles , I have an early (1983) 944. My axles are 16" long and they have a set of 16.25" (p/n: 01-16-2201-0), 4340 PRChromoly axles (shafts only) for $203.
My engine is a stock LS1, so I'm thinking about 350 hp.
