HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

VARIABLE SPEED vs FIXED

Post  Red944ls1 on Thu Jun 06, 2013 8:09 pm

Hi folks,

So I have read much about variable pressure compressors vs the constant pressure. I still dont understand the why of it.

If I am changing the Dryer, and the compressor -- would I need to modify the compressor still.

I am running lines into the bulkhead from the compressor and condenser. Also if changing my dryer -- it looks that I will have to get a switch ?

Thanks

If you plan on running the AC using the Porsche switches and HVAC controller the GM compressor needs to be modified to fixed. If you are going to use the pressure sensor off a a GM donor and allow the GM ECM to control the compressor does not need to be modified.

TRUCK AC COMPRESSOR

Post  Red944ls1 on Fri Jun 07, 2013 8:53 pm

I am going with a truck ac compressor and it has what I think is a pressure switch on the back - Since I am going with this compressor would I need to do the modification as in the LS1 Compressor. Could I use this switch?

Variable pressure

In the F body compressor the variable pressure valve is inside the compressor and retained by a circlip. The connector is for the wiring to the clutch. I'm sure your truck version is similar.

It is very similar as far as removal -- I have pulled the purple connector out it does not look the same --

Pressure

If it is you can use it with the Porsche system without doing any modifications. Control the compressor clutch with the existing Porsche wire. No need to involve the PCM computer.

Red,
How do you plan to use the truck compressor? have you test fit it yet? Are you planning to cut the frame rail, the line run right into it!
What bracket are you planning to use? The truck bracket is in the wrong location (belt routing) and the truck compressor will not fit in the LS1 style bracket. (wrong bolt locations)
