For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I don't exactly like the sound of a choppy and loopy exhaust. I tend to like the corvette borla or bassani exhaust systems. An exhaust that doesn't have that loopy idea and has the more high rev/exotic sound. Any idea's of what I should set up that works with the 944? As of now I don't have an exhaust system even set up at all. Does anyone have a setup like this, with videos?

MAGNAFLOW!!!!!! It is not chambered like flowmaster, so you wont get the sound that most trucks make. You get a nice all the way through sound from engine to exhaust. I have a 2.5" in y pipes from each header into one 3" with one Magnaflow at the rear. I plan on putting a straight Magnaflow up front too, just to bring it down a step.

i vote borla all the way.... just youtube ls1's with w/e cam you have and different muffler then pick the one you like best

How hard is it to set up dual exhaust on the porvette? I'm just wondering if there's any major challenges with setting up any exhaust?

On mine I do, You can nearly count each cylinder as it fires. I do have a large lopey cam though.

Well This may sound bad, no pun intended, but If you want the first sound buy that brand of muffler, If you want the second car's sound just get a couple of old glass packs and you'll be set. The third? just put on some stock Corvette mufflers...........
As far as the last one, I personally love that sound, it tells me that that car is ready to go, If you don't want that sound that's fine, I have no problem with a quite car, As Kent (aka Vorsche944) I tease him all the time. He has the Largest Magnaflow muffler that would fit under his car in there. It sound nice , just about like a stock Vette.
Oh, if you don't like the last car's sound, don't do any mods to your motor, No new cam or head work or the anything like that.

Well....I guess my motors going to sound like the last. I'm new to anything remotely doing with exhaust sound. I have a pretty upgraded engine. patriot heads, torquer v.2 cam (but I'm debating switching to a higher rpm cam), ls6 intake, well.....right now its all in fedex limbo due to a scam so we'll see. I'd rather it not be blatantly obvious that my car is a v8 and I'd rather it not be too loud but I want it to sound good.

Check out my video - it's 3" pipe all the way back with cat and MAGNAFLOW muffler. I think the audio on the last example was 'enhanced' - too much reverb.

Borla/Magnaflow/Bassani have pretty similar sounds. As long as you avoid a chambered (i.e. flowmaster) muffler you'll get a pretty smooth sound.

It's going to be difficult to get the sound in some of those videos because the sound is determined by the entire exhaust package (from the headers to the tailpipes, cats, etc.). I would suggest just making an exhaust with whatever kind of muffler you like then if it's too loud you can add a glasspak in the middle to quiet it down some more.

My car does not have the choppy exhaust sound. It has dual exhaust, but I installed an X-Pipe just before the cats. I use a dynomax muffler that takes 2 inlets and comes out in a single 3" pipe. I like the way it sounds.

I think after all the posts, I will go with a 3" to a Magnaflow 3in/out and call it a day....

I think I might go with a 2.5 inch magnaflow and put in an electric cutout. That way it should be decent sounding and a little on the quiet side but I still have the option of the cutout. Would that work alright?
