HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Truck oil pan
I know it would need to be modded a fair amount to fit but has somebody done it. Im interested in modding the truck pan for a few reasons.
I have the oil pan
I don't need to spend a lot on a premodded pan(TPC)
I don't need to buy a new pan and cut it up(Moroso/Milodon)
I don't need to do an oil filter relocation(both styles of pan)
I have the equipment and time to do it myself
I'm on a very tight budget and own a TIG
Does anybody even have photos of a completed one?
Are there good reasons why I shouldn't do it this way?

It doesn't make much since to me to buy a custom pan and then modify it. People have been building their own oil pans long before you could buy a Moroso pan. I've built several and never owned a tig, just gas welded mine. Go for it.

Re: Truck oil pan
I just did a truck oil pan. It is a PIA job but if you have a TIG that will help. The good; you will be able to use the integral oil thermostat and remote oil cooler mount. I replaced the stock LS cooler lines with AN10 hoses and used a remote billet mount I found on Evilbay. You also get the stock drain plug and oil level indicator and the baffle plate and filter mount. I sectioned the bottom of the tank by a couple of inches as it was way too low and the front also to clear the steering rack. The way the front of the pan is cast gives nice clearance for the steering oil lines that are tight on the left side. The oil pickup tube will have to modded too and that depends on which one you have. I'll scan the sketch and see if I can figure out how to post it as well as some pics i took. Oh yeah, I had my friend Barry the machinist do the cutting as that has to be precise and you'll want to clamp the pan to the welding table and preheat it hot to make the welding easier and keep it from warping. Of course it has to be very very clean, but the metal doesn't seem too porous so there wasn't any oil contamination of the metal.

Re: Truck oil pan
I love the pictures! They help a LOT! Would it be beneficial to just get rid of the front part that dips down.I feel like it would just hold oil with no way for it to return to the pickup tube. Is it there for a reason?
Do you have any photos of it not installed, maybe a few of the inside too.

Re: Truck oil pan
Good to know it was of some use. I chose to cut only what was needed as aluminum distorts like mad with welding so more structure i could leave the better. As for oil collecting in the front thats not too much a problem as there's so much oil flowing that it's constantly being replaced. Going from memory flow through the engine is very similar to the rate of water that comes out of a garden hose off city pressure.
Here are few more pics. Just a point the raw pics show the section of the front of the pan and I got it wrong. Go with the dimensions in sketch thats more like it. But whatever you do don't go less less than 1.75" clearance or you'll be pinching the pickup tube to get clearance.
