For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Reupholstery
Has anyone had any experience with reupholstery?
I am working on a couple seats for a friend of mine and the upholstery kit he has for his 65 stang is loose and sagging. The burlap is all falling apart and the foam is smashed. He says the seats feel good so he doesnt see why the foam would need replaced, but thats the only thing that fills the leather upholstery right?
Figured it would be a good work up to the custom job in my car.

Re: Reupholstery
you are correct- been there, fought that...new foam IS out there, but most times I add sheets of 1"
in the usual wear spots. makes all the difference.
just a few hog rings will tell you if you're "thick enough"
a heat gun -at a safe distance - makes a dramatic difference-
keep it moving, almost too hot to touch- will make the cover stretch a mile.
i get pretty violent with the cover- you'll kno when the edges let go.
(they start as small rips )

Re: Reupholstery
I can vouch for Classic9, I had my seats, dash and console all done in leather from them, awesome! This is one area that I opted to have someone else do the work, I was too busy at the time. I have done this before on my Beetles, it's not hard. Classic9 sells kits too, if you have the time, go for it. And YES, replace all the foam, make sure you use the proper dense stuff. Pics are in my gallery of their work, and they were great to deal with.

Re: Reupholstery
Figuring out some tricks of the upholstery trade and it all comes down to quality of the material. My neighbor bought his car with this upholstery in a box that came with it. After I added some foam to the rear of the padding to fill the leather out, I started placing my hog ties, well thats where all went wrong. The material is cheap, the seams are all coming undone, the material is tearing through the hog ties.
I compared thickness to the 1965 leather and this stuff is incredibly thin. I need to take it to a local shop and see what can be done. I am going to have to break it to him that that stuff was probably ebay crappola.
I'll probably just stick to what I am good at now, thats wrenching
