HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Hitch in my steering Empty Hitch in my steering

Post  rooster Fri Oct 12, 2012 6:16 pm

Set up is new ZF rebuilt rack, Turn 1 pump, hydro boost, Borgsen universal steering joints and steering shaft from xschop.

The issue is that my steering has a hitch or catch when I turn the wheel a few degrees off center. It's a small amount of resistance almost like something is binding slightly. I've checked then universal joints and they are fine, there does not seem to be anything that is out of the ordinary in the steering system that I can see. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Where should I be looking? Thanks.

Hitch in my steering Empty Hitch

If you have used the Borgesen joints specified by xschop you have to reprofile the inner sections to avoid binding or catching as the joints rotate. I had to grind quite a lot away to get the clearance.

Mike, thanks for the reply. In your experience did both u-joints require grinding? It looks like the lower joint has the more extreme angle and is the culprit but want to be sure. Damn, I get pull the steering shaft out again...... Mad

Yes, I ground both joints. I'm surprised Rob didn't tell you that.

Thanks again. Yeah me too, oh well it's certainly not the first part of this swap that I've had to do twice.

Just wanted to post a quick update, I fixed this a while back but forgot to close the loop. I ground down both joints in the areas where they bind to give them a little more movement and then reassembled the steering. I'm happy to report the steering is much easier and there is no more 'hitch'. Slowly but surely I'm working all the bugs out of my swap. Now I wish track season weren't so far away...... Sad Maybe I should move to a warmer climate.
