For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

Header collection gaskets
What kind of header collection gaskets are you all using? I've just had a second one blow out, it almost looks like some kind of compressed paper material (maybe asbestos?).

Re: Header collection gaskets
I had repeated problems with the gaskets blowing out after trying the white paper looking ones, the steel mesh gray versions and the solid aluminum ones. What I found was the exhaust pipe flange must be centered on the gasket or it will blow a hole in the gasket. You have to slightly tighten the three bolts and use a screwdriver between the flange and the pipe to center.
Once I figured out the centering problem the the steel mesh versions have held up well.

Yup! Same thing here except I used alignment weld rings tacked to the pipe side which centered the gasket.

Re: Header collection gaskets
That is a ball style collector, The ball goes into the header flange and then you just weld your exhaust pipe onto the end of that.
