HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

944 MID ENGINE F5GTM KILLER Empty 944 MID ENGINE F5GTM KILLER

Post  LEEEZARD7 Mon Nov 26, 2012 5:33 am

Ok lets get the gearheads together here... I have thought about a mid engine 911 for awhile now, But XSCHOP has been talking to me about a mid engine 944...

TO THE MEAT OF BUSINESS HERE... Basically taking a vette rolling chassis, C5 stuff. Use the suspension front and rear, get an LS7 engine and use and inverted G5052 PORSCHE 911 gearbox much like the early F5GTM. I have done preliminary measurements and the g50 could be mounted back in the chassis say 3.25 inches further with modded axles. Giving room to stuff the LS7 7.0 in the back seat area of the 944 body shell. Using the C5 front and rear suspension would make the car more nimble and adjustable. C5 suspension for those of you who dont know is aircraft aluminum dual a arms on all four corners. There is a bolt on kit to use the C6 BREMBOS on C5 spindles. Easily making a MID ENGINE TRACK KING. The mid engine 944 thing is totally robs idea. The more i think about it the more i like it. This would not be a build for the timid as it would be a totally new build tube chassis car with 944 skin basically. I have always liked the look of the 944. Dont get me wrong i like F5GTM's but i dont like the 25000.00 kit price tag. Not saying i would build this tomorrow or next year, just getting a gather of the minds so to speak...

being that it would be a totally custom build/tube chassis, of coarse you could use piggyback kw coilovers or moton's, or bilstein pss10's or the such for all four corners. custom billet non memory 7075 front and rear sways with adjustable drop links, etc, etc, etc... sure you would have 50-60g's in it but a gtm cost more than that to build. basic same idea... but i like to build things myself anyhow.

944 MID ENGINE F5GTM KILLER Empty Motor

Post  gamman Fri Feb 15, 2013 7:00 pm

Why not consider the next generation. Electricporsche.ca the guy has put in a wimpy electric engine. If you look up bmw Pikes peak electric they have a division for electric vehicles. No gas money and no engine rebuilds, nor oil, radiator, changes. If you could fit 2 electric motors, and have a 20 min battery pack, awesome for a track session. Problem is that you might need 3-4 battery packs for a track night. I would usually go for about 100 miles an evening/day with my regular gas track cars in a day.

Oh, and the guy starts out in third gear, so transmission issues with gearing etc may be easier?? And better traction being midengine.

If I won the lotto, I would almost force Eric and xchop to make me one, as you can tell, I really like it.

944 MID ENGINE F5GTM KILLER Empty Re: 944 MID ENGINE F5GTM KILLER

to tell you the truth it's point less you would be spending many amny 1000's of dollars for nothing but some different .
1st the 944 chassis is a 50 / 50 balanced car out of the box so there is no gain there and even with the LS7 motor in my tube chassis car it still is a 50/50 balance . will you get better handling well no not there either . because you will nto really end up with the mod engine car you will end up with more rear weight on the rear wheels as you stated you would have to move the gear box back more . then by doing that your angles of the half shafts will change to keep the wheel base the same as the 944's . now if the angle is to great you will be snapping half shafts right and left .
then what class would you race it in it could only be a track car and the down side is there is no class to run it in you could run it in scca SPO but you will not be a front runner in the class .

NASA STU, ST1, or ST2, depending on hp/wt.

962porsche, what class are you running in. You state that in another post that you can not change out the t-bars. Are your running SCCA? I'm asking because when I spoke with SCCA, I was told the only class my car would fit in was SPO, due to the engine swap.

the SBC car runs in a number of classes . with scca it runs in spo but i don't do many SCCA event's with that car as it's built for endurance events .
THE SBC CAR
IMG PL-1
EMRA Super Touring
nasa Super Touring
scca spo
nehca P1
time attack PA

ls7 car
IMG PL-X
nasa Super Unlimited
emra super unlimited
scca spo
nehca FL
time attack SU 1

there are many reasons why i'm not a fan of scca the 1st is cost they rape you every year for your membership then they rape you more just to race and you don't get all that much seat time for the cost . then if your car does not fall in any of the classes they have and have not changed over the last 50 years the they just stick you in SPO or SPU .

All other sanctioning bodies class the car power to weight and what mods you have done to the car . so for the most part the car will be running with other cars that are same as your car . now that's not to say every car is classed 100% right but it's the best way to class a car . so with the sbc car if i remove the T-bars i get more points added the same is with the wheel size . so to keep that car from being classed with my tube chassis LS7 948 i did not do many things to keep it out of a higher class .

in scca spo you will find GT1 cars that have been over built for the gt1 class there are also nascar style road course cars it's a class that the scca has no other place to put them .

How does your SBC car fare in NASA ST (are you running 2, or 3?). I'm asking because the C5 vettes are very fast in that class and you are on very small tires. I'm currently running 275's on all corners (Hankooks Z214's) and have considered trying some 245's as that will give me an extra 0.4 to play with. My car is currently around 2750 to make ST2.
