HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Quaife 6 speed sequential

Post by 962porsche on Wed Nov 14, 2012 3:53 pm

so today i finely finished the install of my new trans in my LS7 948 then i took the car to a abandoned movie theater parking lot to run it .
did it work hell yes !
the gear box is a take off from the 997 gear box that i ran in the car for the last 2 race events last year so the new quaife box went in with out to much fab work .
it has to be turned upside down but that is what you have to do if your using a 911 box in a mid engine kit type car any way so it's no big deal .
i needed to tap in a new drain plug hole as the one in the trans will not drain the oil out now being on the top with the trans up side down .
i needed to broach a new bigger slip yoke's for the drive shaft to the trans i also had to cut 56mm off the bellhousing of the trans to get it into the chassis .
because the half shalfs are also totaly deferent i needed to have new ones made . the car uses alot of 997 rear suspension parts so it's just the size of the half shafts them selfs that needed to be built bigger to handle the tork of the LS7 motor .
over the winter layoff from racing i will do the paddle shifters but for now it stilll has the floor shifter .

i have tried 3 time to post a photo and it keeps telling me it's to dam big . my wife said he knows how to do it so when she gets to the shop i will have her do post the photo for me .

the cool part about the trans is that you don't lift off the gas to make a shift . just pull back in the shifter and goes right into the next gear .
my DSR race car with a motorcycle motor is the same way but that car only has 229 HP and this car has 692 HP so you just get pinned back in the seat and stay there until you lift off the gas .
i may take it to a VIR this weekend for a pca event if not i will be taking to the VIR club day next week ? i'm dying to drive it at the track !

Is there any downside to running a transmission like that upside-down? It seems like you might wind up starving some bearings of oil... But, i guess if they do it in other swaps.

what happen is it's in the car the car has been in many races and does very well !
as for any photos i have tried many time to post things here on this site and with out any luck .
so i gave up trying . i tried just the other day to post some thing else from my new PC and still could not . i'm in NO way into computers at all nor am i into taking photos hell even my phone does not take photos or text all it does is makes and takes calls .

when this is your business and you build cars every day for a living then some thing like a motor or trans swap is the norm and no big deal at all .

even my old web site was totaly worth less . it cost me money to have and i didn't get work from it all i got were 100's of calls from people with big plans and no money . they would see a photo of some thing like this trany swap and i would get a call asking how much it would cost for me to do it to there car . i would end up talking to them for a half hour on the phone only to find out they don't have the money to do a swap like this . what it comes down to is a business has to make money and time is money so getting worth less calls from people just dreaming costs me money .

PORCH :
you can flip the trans up side down you have to do some changes for the oil cooler and for the oil pump but other than that it's no big deal to do . it's been done many times before on many porsche trans that people use in mid engine kit cars .

In no ones defence I have a friend that has a 78 924 turbo and it was explained to me that the trans in that car was flipped. I think flipping the trans changed the first gear position. I might remember first gear is down.

nothing changes to have the 1st gear in a different spot .
because of the amount of cars we build we will have to design and build a bell crank linkage at times to locate the shifter where it needs to be when we are dealing with a rod type shift linkage .
how ever that is not the case when you have cable shifters .

ok so i try for the 100th time and post this photo of the back half of the LS7 948 tube car .
on this forum and on the race engineering forum it seams people want to see the trans swap .
so i tried and tried .
so i need help to do so and go to email a a friend that owns the CO i bought this new PC with windows 8 on it . what i get just tring to email him is
( could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed )
what the f*** is that all about !!!!!
i hate this windows 8 i had XP and knew it and could use it with out any headeachs at all .
i was talked into this thing because my old XP was slow i didn't care about that it did it's job .

i have a mac for the chassis and aerodynamics design programs that too is old but it works . it's not on the internet as it's only for design work . i finished a design for a customer and scaned the way the car will look into the windows 8 even just trying to scan is a PITA with windows 8 .

so i have to CALL the guy at the computer store and i have to fedex the paper work of the design work . it's just like what i had to do back in the 80's .

Usually only large businesses use an email 'client'...an application that is resident on the PC such as Lotus Notes.

Most of us use web based email such as Yahoo mail; Hotmail or Gmail that we access with the internet browser (and probably have a 'favorite'-'bookmark' that we click on to access our webmail).

Often an older website will have a button to click on to send them an email...when you do it tries to launch the corporate email 'client' which you probably don't have and don't need. Thus the dreaded "could not perform this operation because the default mail client " message pops up.  Hope this helps.

before this new PC i used outlook and that was very ez . i could scan , down load and send photos ,estimates and so on all over the worls with out any headeachs .
with this it's a 10 step process just to down load a photo from the camera .
about a weel ago i was up in canada at tremblant with the LS7 948 took two days of incar with the gopro got back and tried to load it into the PC it seamed to load but i can't find the thing and it tells me some about there is no website for it .
me dealing with crap like this is no different than me asking some one to design and build a chassis that has never done it before or asking some one that has never driven a high PH car to go out on the track . they may get around the track but not at any good speed .
i called the computer guy and he will stop down some time over the weekend if he can .
he's a friend and can't brake his stones to much to get him down here if i'm not paying him to do so .

ahhh...Outlook is part of Microsoft Office Suite and a 'client' email app. Outlook Express is another version with a few less features. Your friend should be able to get you working again...patience Razz

Or try this:
