2000 covette ps pump work with bmw hydro and stock rack?

Post  tkrame944 on Mon Oct 01, 2012 10:01 pm

i am now getting down to nearing the end of my build, and one of my next steps will be plumbing in my hydrobooster and rack. i have heard some about an aftermarket ps pump but i dont remember any details. right now i have a stock 2000 corvette ps pump with a 1983 bmw 740il hydroboost, and stock 1986 944 na rack. will thoes all work together or will the stock ps pump not run the corect pressure, or have correct lines.

PS Pump

Post  fliermike45 on Tue Oct 02, 2012 8:28 am

I'm using a Turn One PS Pump with Mustang HB and stock 944 rack.
So far so good.

If you plan on tracking your car you should get the Turn 1 pump. On the street the corvette pump will be ok...

My car will be a street car, but i want it to preform without hesitation. Will i be disapointed with the stock pump? How does it lack?

I'm Running a stock Camero pump with the BMW Hydro and 86NA rack.
The brakes are fine, they come on with a light touch and stop just fine.
You will need to run the BMW or equal size reservoir as the "bomb" holds about a dozen stops. Thats a nice size puddle of oil.
The steering is more consistent above idle so I guess the higher pressure pump would address that. I'm not worried about it for street use

On the track the pressure the stock pump gives is wrong and the power steering fluid will boil. On the street it's not a problem.

I switched my PS cooler from right to left side and plumbed it into the return line.

That sounds like a good set up I don't want to over heat anything when I go all out
