HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

She's alive! (but she's hot)
I finally turned the key and - got nothing actually. The fuel pump and PCM were not turning on. After some testing I found a bad connection on the new PCM relay, fixed that and then she ran! Woooo hooo! It's a great feeling to finally have it running.
Now on to my issue, the car heated up way too quickly so obviously I don't have the cooling system fully purged of air. The good news is it turned on both fans so I know those work. Can someone reply with their tricks for getting the air out of the cooling system please?
I am running 951 rad that was cleaned and tested by a rad shop, new 160 t-stat in the stock mount, stock 951 metal coolant pipe to connect the tank to the top drivers side of the radiator. I also plumbed my steam vents on the heads to a T that connects to the small hose that runs from the top drivers side of the rad to the expansion tank. I'm pretty sure this is what other folks have done. I have opened both steam ports to let air escape a number of times until water came out. I thought that would do it but apparently not. Please help, all I need to do is get the cooling system sorted, bleed the clutch and then I cadrive this puppy.
Thanks and happy Labor Day.

You could try jacking up the drivers side front so the expansion tank is a little higher... Run the car with the heat on full too....

I didn't do anything special. I do have the T as close as possible to the reservoir. As mentioned, run it with the heater at full heat. I would run it until the fans came on, let it cool, fill the reservoir and repeat until fluid started coming out the overfill tube. I took a good bit of fluid almost 4 gallons, IIRC.
Do you know what the PCM fan settings are? They may need to be changed for the 160deg thermostat.

Re: She's alive! (but she's hot)
Thanks guys. I had the DS raised, maybe I need more of a lift on the DS vs. the PS.
4 gallons? Wow I think I had only 2 or so, hmmm. Re. the fans I'm pretty sure they are set at the stock temps. I'll take a look once I get the car on the dyno, the dyno owner has HP Tuner.
I'll get back in the garage tonight and try to get this sorted out. Wish me luck!

Re: She's alive! (but she's hot)
The way I do it is, Jack the front of the car as high as you can, Fill the motor and radiator as full as you can through the hose. Then fill the reservoir with the steam vent hose off. This will let the remainder of the air out of the heads. Once you get water coming out of the steam vent hose, stop and re connect it. Then top off the tank again. Put the cap on and let the car down. DO NOT RUN THE CAR WITH THE CAP OFF! It will suck back in air if you do. You should not have any other problems with the over heating.
Re: She's alive! (but she's hot)
Thanks for the help guys, I think I got it. I ran the car for about 20 minutes today, the temp slowly came up to 180-190 fans cycled a few times and all is well. I think my issue was air in the heads. Getting a stream of water out of the steam vent in the heads did the trick. Now I just need the clutch to work.....
