For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Exhaust mods
When I had my car built, I went with the S&P headers (Eric hadn't come out with his long tube headers yet) test pipes and a dual 2.5" exhaust going into a single rear 14" Magnaflow rear muffler.
The car sounded super cool, but was incredibly loud. To the point that with a passenger in my car on the track, with my in car intercom turned all the way up, we still couldn't hear one another.
The car was also a bit much to drive on the freeway, lots of noise, couldn't really hear the radio, never could hear my cell phone ring, etc.
I decided I had to do something to tone it down a little, so with some measuring I found that while the 22" Magnaflow muffler was a bit too tight of a fit, the 18" Magnaflow should work well. Got one and had it put in and much to my delight it's definitely taken the edge off the exhaust note.
It's still deep and rumbly and still quite a bit louder than a stock F body, but it's also substantially more quiet than before. I took a quick lap down the street and it's far more pleasant. Supposed to snow tomorrow, so won't be able to take a longer drive, but I'm pleased!
Next up, 965 front brake rotors and Big Black front brake calipers. Then Eric's new fuel filter kit...

Re: Exhaust mods
I have single 3in exhaust with two cats and an offset in/center out 18in magnaflow. The noise can't be more than stock levels. One of my kids, 7yo girl, said she wanted it to be a little louder.

Re: Exhaust mods
I'm sure if I put cats in it'd be even more quiet. Found the cats were worth 12rwhp!

Re: Exhaust mods
I had a magnaflow on mine for a while and it was a really enjoyable exhaust note. Now i have a SpinTech muffler and it's a little more aggressive, but quiets out at cruise. I have cats on mine too, they really keep the noise down.

Re: Exhaust mods
The "high flow" cats work well when they're new, then they crap out. Since the car is basically a track car I removed them and put in test pipes. When the car needs to get tested I'll put the cats back in, that way I'll pass since I haven't destroyed them on the track.

Re: Exhaust mods
You can bring down the noise quite a bit with resonators where the cats go. Just another option.

Re: Exhaust mods
Two mufflers seems to be a worthwhile suggestion if you aren't going to run cats.
