HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Howdy. My LS1 does not like to idle when cold. On first start of the day I have to sit there and baby sit the throttle for the first minute or 2 or it'll die. Once it gets warmed up it idles at a rock steady 850 and has very good throttle response. So it seems to me to just be a problem in that "open loop" period on cold startup.

This seems to be a common problem as I see many threads on the various forums complaining of similar bahavior. There are suggestion to do a "TPS reset" and a "IAC relearn" but procedures vary. Does anyone have the true steps to perform these? I also see suggestions to clean the IAC and clean the MAF wire. Both of these parts I got used so I should try cleaning them. Has such cleaning helped any of y'all?

But the real culprit is probably the tune. My engine has fairly big cam and I read that it takes a lot of tuning time/data to get nice cold idle manners. I suppose it's likely the shop that rebuild and dyno-tuned my engine didn't really put the effort in for this. It's not the end of the world as once I get a couple minutes of running the engine is all good. Perhaps I should just be happy with that.

Any other suggestions for things to try short of getting it re-tuned?

Thanks,
Rich

Have you checked the coolant temp sensor on the driver's side head? Usually when it fails the PCM thinks the engine is warm.

Ah, good thought. But when I connect the scan tool the PCM's water temp starts at ambient and climbs with the dash gauge. So I think it's reading correctly.
