HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Corvette Accesories Empty Corvette Accesories

Post  michaellong Thu Feb 13, 2014 11:29 pm

Hey everyone, been on the forums for about 9 months or so, and this is my first actual post since I used the handy dandy "search" bar up top so many times. But, this time I couldn't find anything about someone attempting to throw the Gen III LS1 with Corvette accessories into the 944. So decided to go public.

I read that everyone is saying it won't work, but has it actually been attempted, and if it has, then what will I need to do to make it work?

I know that the PCV breather hole on the valve cover needs to be modified, but I'll do that once I get my LS6 valley cover to grind it down and weld it closed.

I'm not looking to put more money towards buying the F-body conversion, eventhough it would probably be the best way to go, but I want to work with what I got before I throw in the towel.

All responses are greatly appreciated.

Will not work - I tried. I have a '98 Vette LS1. Unless you go with the F-Body accessories, you will spend considerable time and money modifying the hood and frame to allow for the 'Vette bracketry.
Believe me (and I'm sure others will agree), that the only successful path for you is to go forward with the F-Body accessories. Put the 'Vette stuff up on EBay to finance the F-Body parts.

There is enough evidence on this site and also in Sloan's book that attempting to use a Vette LS1 with its accessories will not work. Use Camaro F body brackets and accessories. Its a tight fit even with these.
Eric at TPC has brackets.

Alright guys, thanks for the feedback. I finally gave in and decide to do some reaserch for f-body mounts and accessories. Found a company down in California that could relocate the alternator at the the bottom just like the f-body without changing the corvette belt line.

This is their setup:

CTS PS PUMP BRACKET-$40
CORVETTE BELT LINE LOW MOUNT ALT BRACKET-$100
PS PUMP (980 psi)-$150
GM PULLEY (part # 12558529)-$40

Company is called Custom Built Motors. And they have an 86 944 at their shop right now running off this setup. I figured this was the better option to go with so I don't have to change the harmonic balancer and pay as much.

I thought the CTS-V p/s pump specs were 1.9-2.1 GPM 1640/1740 psi which is very, very close to the OEM 944 pump per:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

And can't you just have the F-Body alternator bracket milled down 3/4" so in lines up with the rest of the corvette FEAD? Of course I guess that could cost over 100 bux :-)

btw...an EXCELLANT website find ! ! !

Finally, does anyone know what the Camaro L99 p/s pump specs are or where I can find them??

Yes, the CTS-V pump is rated at 1.9-2.1 gpm 1640/1740 psi. But I am using a mustang hydro booost setup as well, where operating pressures should be around 1200-1300 psi max (2.5 gpm), so I purchased a Sweet Manufacturing power steering pump which is ~1000 psi (~2.7 gpm) so I don't get the jerkiness in my steering from the hydroboost.

So you are saying the CTS-V alone (non-modified) provided 'jerkiness in my steering', can you let us know what changes were needed...did Sweet Manufacturing advise you? I have a CTS-V pump and need to know. Many thanks.

This is an LS3 swap with the drive kit for a Corvette. The stock coolant tank will not clear the alternator but besides that, everything else was fitted without a problem.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]" />

I might have misguided you in my response. The Sweet Manufactoring p/s pump was included with my order from Custom Built Motors. It has the same dimensions as a camaro pump just calibrated at a different psi in order for my hydroboost to function at standard operating pressures.

I got most of my information regarding hydro assist and steering from calling Hydratech Braking (hydratechbraking.com) they gave me the operating limits my hydroboost unit should be running at and what my pump specs should be. When I found out CBM sold pump that met the specs (flow rate/psi) I was looking for, I added it to my kit.

As for the question of your about the CTS-V pump being modified. I would have to assume so of you're running the hydroboost setup. When I talked to the tech at Hydratech, they said the flow rate and psi on the HP side of the hydroboost could cause the steering to be real touchy.

Is probably call them and find out what could be done to your pump. I'd say maybe changing your orfice would help, but I'm not all that good with hydraulics.

Admin told me of someone actually doin it, but he wasn't too sure! I kinda figured the only thing that would interfere was the expansion tank and hood (maybe) but I already got parts on the way. Thanks for the pic though!

And...

never mind...

2010+ Camaro
Flow: 0.9 to 1.3 GPM @ 400 RPM; 1.8 to 2.2 GPM @ 1500 RPM
Max pressure: 1700 to 1850 PSI

Great match for the 944.
