HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Car weight

Post  fliermike45 on Fri Feb 24, 2012 12:44 pm

944 Wiki states that 88 944 weighs 2932 lbs.
I weighed my 948 today on a public scale it was 3060 lbs.
Seems it gained 128 pounds

Subtractions:
944 Engine and clutch, 944 NA Transaxle and drive shafts. 944 engine accessories, brake master and booster. Radiator, headlights and motor assembly, front body crossmember , front and rear bumpers and shocks, nose and tail body fairings. All 944 rotors and calipers. Phone dial wheels. Hood latch landing panel and cross member. Side view mirrors, stock exhaust system.

Additions:
C5 LS1 and clutch, F body engine accessories, Wilwood brake master, 951 Transaxle and uprated drive shafts, Griffin radiator, TPC front body crossmember and headlights, IFC Wide body nose and tail. Boxster front rotors, Lexus Calipers, 951 rear rotors, Rx7 calipers, Cup 2 style wheels 7" and 9"
KLA Strut and anti roll bar braces. Hood pin mount plates. 968 side view mirrors.
Magnaflow 2 in 2 out muffler, dual Magnaflow resonators, twin tube system, RH headers.

Exchanges:
Front and rear shocks, front suspension bushes. Fuel pump.

No interior changes. Full fuel tank.

It also had a new windshield two weeks ago, original cracked at the top edge on passenger side.

Other than the 948 badge on the rear there is not many clues as to what's under the hood as a few unsuspecting drivers have found out.

Looking good, cant wait to get started on my car!

The curb weight changes everywhere you look, the owners manual says the '88 N/A has a curb weight of 2844lbs (for comparison, it says the '88 944T is 2998lbs). This is with a full tank of gas, oil and coolant. Are your wheels factory or replicas? I had a set of the Mille Miglia replicas and they weighed a ton, i would say easily 5-6lbs (maybe more) more per wheel than the factory equivalent.

Wheels

Yes I believe they are replicas because the rim size and offset is not shown adjacent to the valve stem.

Mike, I'm not sure I would go by any published weight. I think the only way to know for sure is to weigh your car before and after. Which you can't do now, of course...

Weight

Post  fliermike45 on Fri Feb 24, 2012 5:35 pm

I'm also going to try finding a better set of scales than those at the landfill. They are only interested in the difference in full and empty trucks. Who knows how accurate they are?

Mine was weighed on the race scales, so I'm pretty confident in the accuracy of them.

Second weighing

Post  fliermike45 on Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:59 pm

I had the car weighed at my local truck stop today. It was a CAT...Certified Automated Truck scale and reported the weight at 3060 pounds, the same weight I got at the landfill station. Both times the car had a full gas tank.

Hey Mike , I weighed mine on the same CAT scales at 2980 with the iron-block. No window washer and fiberglass bumper. Eric will build a fiberglass hood and I'm keeping the ironblock...it's spray friendly Very Happy

Weight

Post  fliermike45 on Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:54 pm

Rob,

That's strange, did you have a full gas tank, thats 21 gallons? 160 pounds. What year is your car? What is the published weight?

I removed the front and rear bumpers and their shocks plus the headlights and mechanism.

The IFC front and rear panels are a few pounds but I think the copy Porsche Cup 1 wheels and wide tires add weight. Is the Turbo tranny much heavier than a NA version? My interior is stock and I still have the rear seat installed.

Just think how much lighter it would be if you had a superior aluminum block in it! tongue

85.5......I have a rear fiberglass bumper and shock delete back there too. RX7 control arms are lighter than factory arms. Still have the pop-ups. Fidanza Flywheel is 12 lbs. My serpentine sys is billet and factory PS pump. Lighter than the GM stuff I'm sure. IIRC I did only have about 3/4 tank at the weigh in....and a Popeye's lunch special in pass. seat Razz

Update of this thread

my country require car inpection every 6 mo for 10 years old car ( ya i know this is dumb)

and one of inspection is to measure your car front and rear axle weight

here is some basic car spec

1994 Porsche 968 fullyload(AC PS Cruise) with LS1

full tank of gas and 16 inch stock wheel

160lb driver

front axle weight 1694LB

rear axle weight 1738LB

I was pretty suprise how balance of 968 with LS1 is , and make me to believe i did a right swap !!

but the problem is if i start to light weight of car the rear end will get too light............

I thought i'd weigh in on this, if you know what i mean Laughing

Me and a buddy went to the same scale on the same day, here is what we found:

Mine: 1990 S2, LS1 swap. No A/C (yet), back seat upper portion removed, 1/3 tank of gas. 3,050lbs

His: 1989 M030 951. Complete car, full tank of gas: 3,140lbs.

Between the gas i was missing (~70lbs), the seatback (~20lbs), and the A/C parts (~5lbs) which i'll be adding back in, I think it is fair to say that the LS1 weighs exactly the same as the 951 motor.

my lS7 tube chassis car scales in dry at 2138 .
my SBC 350 car scales in at 2351 .
on the SBC car it still uses the steel mail body but all extra weight has been removed along with all glass has been changed out to lexan with all bolt on panels were replaced with fiberglass .
