When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

3 piece cross member/lowering steering rack

Post  JFettig on Sun Feb 19, 2012 2:31 pm

So I'm doing almost the exact same swap as Turbo Johan, a TDI swap. Both of us have run into issues with the cross member and steering rack. We're solving it two different ways it looks like.

He lowered his cross member, and lowered the steering rack on it. I'm planning on doing something quite differently and hoping like hell it'll work well!

I haven't decided whether to weld the center section back in, or make it a stay a 3 piece and bolt it. The steering rack will not move left or right with the cuts I have made. Its approx 1/2" offset, so I did the same with my cuts.

Awesome. Looks like you beat me to the punch on that mod Laughing I have the dimensions written down at the shop, and you are correct. The rack mounts are offset from the body mounts by 0.5 - 0.625"
