For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Will this engine work?
Hi,
I have an opportunity to buy a near brand new gm 6.0 gen IV engine (full engine minus ecu) that came out of a boat that hydrolocked. I also have a 951 race car that I could eventually put the engine in when im tired of the turbo, or have engine issues.
I know that this is not a perfect swap, since the engine is an iron block, but I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is. Is a gen 4 iron block still an ls? or is that an lq? could I possibly strip it down and swap the short block with a 6 liter alum block? I also know that a lot, if not all the accessories/intake needs to change, but just curious as to how far away from what I would really want this is.
whats the weight difference between the iron block and the alumn block (it has alum heads)?
I'll probably pick the engine up anyways, but any help is appreciated.
thanks

Re: Will this engine work?
The 6.0 will fit. But it'll be cheaper in the long run to find one that runs and that came from an auto.
Re: Will this engine work?
I pretty sure this is a vortec LY6 engine youre talking about. The following is a GM pdf with all its information.

Ya, that looks exactly like it. I'm getting it for next to nothing, what I dont know is what all I would have to replace to make it useful for my application, and if anything on it is worth keeping. Or should I just same the couple hundred im going to spend on this, and when the time is right buy a real ls*?
Much appreciated.
