For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Time to do the 5th gear swap
My torque tube is in need of new bearings. While I have that fun, does anyone know where I might be able to locate the early 5th na gear set to do the swap. My '91 S2 runs great with its LS1, but dropping the rpm's at hwy speeds would be great.

Re: Time to do the 5th gear swap
The S2 comes stock with the long 5th gear (0.778) verses the stock 5th of the turbo (0.829).

Check out Rennlist, Pelican Parts and 944 Forum. 5th gear sets are listed for sale all the time. There is an even taller 5th gear available in the US from an Audi diesel. Do a search, it came up about 6 months ago or so...

S2 trans gearing
Sooo, The s2 has the long 5th gear, but it has a taller final drive (ring and pinion). Right? Thus changing to the turbo FDR (3.35) would make for a very nice highway ride. Am I correct?

Re: Time to do the 5th gear swap
Ask the Spec 944 guys for their 5 gear sets. They all take out their stock tall 5th gear and replace it with the short turbo one. They'll pretty much give it to you, that's how I got mine.
Don't trade a short gear 5th for it tho, the short gear 5th is worth $4-500!
