HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

disengagement issues
I have been searching the post and found plenty of talk about the clucth master cylinder. Want i didnt see was a positive answer to the question. Not trying to bring back an old topic or anything though.
While driving i notice the i find my self moving faster than the clutch pedal and feel the gears trying to grab as im am switching out of gears. I figure this goes to the master cylinder topic. If i slow down and focus on pushing in the pedal completely i do not have an issue, this just seems to take alot of time for a gear shift.
So i guess i am asking if there is a master that will require about half of the stock pedal distance and still allow the clutch to fully disengage?

What is your set up now? I did some reading on LS1tech.com and it was indicated the slave cylinder input line has a restriction and some drilling of the slave would help quicker engagement. The slight grinding may be due to the transaxle fluid. What type of transaxle do you have and when was the last time the fluid was changed? what fluid did you use? Did you measure to see if you needed a shim when installing the clutch? My car is having similar issues.

Re: disengagement issues
After reading so many posts like this one, I've decided to go with a Wilwood 260-6088 master cylinder.
In testing it on my bench, I found it moves the TOB noticeably farther (over 1/8" more) and with a lot less effort (this is on both LUK LS1 and LUK LS7 self-adjusting OEM clutch kits).
The clutch begins to release about at about 33% downward pedal travel and fully releases at about 50% pedal travel.
The MC moves about 10% more fluid volume to extend the TOB piston travel and it does it with only a .700" diameter piston. The smaller diameter of course reduces the clutch pedal push effort...it went from ~43 pounds pedal effort with a .75" diameter cylinder to ~38 pounds pedal effort with the .700” with the LS7 PP, and only ~29 pounds pedal effort with a LUK LS1 setup! I can see how this setup would make the clutch release/engagement modulation smoother as well.

Re: disengagement issues
Sounds to me that the gear set isnt slowing down fast enough; meaning, the gears are spinning faster than the synchro mesh speed. This could be transaxle fluid all leaked out, too thin, old fluid or worn out synchros. This is common when some switch to a fluid like royal purple.
If this is a new "all-of-a-sudden" problem, the clutch disc may not be fully disengaging from the flywheel due to air getting into the system (try bleeding the clutch again).
But, could be as simple as low clutch fluid level!

Not a new problem. I have castrol 80w90 gear fluid. Topped off at fill hole. No spacer needed.
It happens occasionally when i dont get the pedal completely down.
Ill look at the mc you suggested

How is your firewall? If you look at it while someone presses the clutch in how far, if any, does the master cylinder bulge out?

Did you ever get this figured out....mine does the same thing

Re: disengagement issues
Don't overlook the clutch/FW/PP itself. Before swapping my clutch for a LS7 unit, I thought my poor shifting transaxle was worn out and needed rebuilding. It shifts great now. I swapped it out chasing a vibration and killed two birds with one stone.
