HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
I have a hard time believing these will be the 6 pots. Maybe they're the regular floating caliper? if you look for a caliper for a regular c6 it comes up w/ the same part number. But who knows, someone could order one to check.

I confirmed these 350mm Cayenne rotors are the exact same offset as the 330mm Cayenne rotors. The outer rotor sweep technically moves outwards by 2mm as they are 34mm thick compared to the 330mm dia. rotors that are 32mm thick. And off course require the same centering rings.

Issues
Here's what I suspected would be an issue using the 951 spindles (94mm ears). The Z06 brake line input directly interferes with the bolt head. The 87-up NA spindles (76mm ears) will move the bolt head out of the way. This pic shows brake line interference even without a bolt washer under the head....

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
This was an issue I saw as well but I think the line has enough room to clear.
If you have an M10 banjo bolt and line laying around you could probably do a quick test.

Ok. I have a motorcycle banjo that fits as it's head is only 1/8" tall. I will have to make them fron 1/2" thick steel because it will hit the banjo head.

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
O.K. the spindle bolt near the caliper port will have to be a CAP-head M12 x 1.5
The Z06 Caliper Bolts and inserts are M14 x 2.0

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
I used Schue's alloy prototype to make the adapters out of 1/2" thick 4140 cold-rolled steel on the hand mill..... Everything fits beautifully. Not in the pic, the backside, where adapter mates to spindle ears is milled 0.08 and this pic shows where the caliper needs to be milled when an alloy adapter is made.... Now I have to hand mill the other mirror side adapter

Schue, with 1/2" thick steel adapters you'll need M12 x 1.5 x 25 (4ea)
2 of them need to be cap-heads as discussed before near the line ports.

Both 951 adapters done. Just have to find a box to fit the monster rotor with your spindle/hub. I took this quick pic to show the line-port clearance when using the 87-NA spindle. You'll need to find M10 x 1.0 banjo's. Yamaha bike shop carries them.

I read your discussion on the brake swap - looks great. Please let me know if you decide to sell the kit. Thanks.

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
the brakes are on and work. However lack of funds and time have prevented me from track testing it, i've just been putting around the neighborhood.
Currently the oil pan is leaking and i'm bring the car up to TPC to get that resolved. Plus the alignment is way off at the moment. Hopefully it will be on the track in the next month or two and I can see how it performs.
As for pricing, I need to bring the adapters to a machine shop my buddy runs and see what he'll give me for pricing.

a bit off topic ...
Hey what did you do to mount your master cylinder. What one did you use and do you still have power brakes?
Thanks,
Chris.
Just gonna gather the pieces together to put the ls1 in the car..

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
I'm interested just because they say CORVETTE. Not to mention the best part is they should really put the woes on.
Have plenty of calipers just need brackets when you can produce after testing. Let us know how it goes, can't wait to hear.

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944 [Still Alive ???]
I love this idea and if/when the price and details are ironed out I am definitely interested. Absolutely in love with the idea of affordable 6 piston calipers gotta have some sure fire way to scrub of some of that speed

So, have these been track tested? If so, spill!

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
Man I feel bad, I haven't been on this forum in a while and I really haven't updated the thread at all. Luckily I'm subscribed so I got an email when you posted Lemming.
The car is a continuous project that keeps taking so many turns its crazy. I got it running for the most part and did a couple shake downs. The car won't be running for a couple months as I'm currently doing a chassis swap(long story) but I have had a little track time w/ the z06 caliper setup.
Unfortunately I'm not completely satisfied with the setup as of yet. I find myself locking the front almost instantly when the car is cold, only after a couple laps will I feel more comfortable with the braking. This of course has caused slower lap times due to way early braking. I've been playing w/ the bias some but I think it has to do more w/ the hydroboost MC and the pedal travel. Talking to some guy that's not on this site about it, he recommends drilling a couple more holes in my brake pedal and play with different positions of the actuator rod thing that goes to the MC. He said he had similar issues and it was due to the fact that there isnt' enough travel in the pedal. Either way its going to take some more testing when the car is up and running again.

Ok, sounds like you have enough brake, just need to fine tune. Have you tried a different master cylinder? A smaller master cylinder will give you more pedal travel?

Re: C6 Z06 Brakes on my 944
I haven't tried yet, I dont know how much customizing there is w/ the hydroboost system. Out of boredom I did some googling and I may have an issue w/ the booster itself not being bled. Once I get the car moving again I'll follow the standard power steering bleeding procedures and see if that gets me anyway.
