HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Boxster Rear Calipers
I have needed some rear calipers to match my Cayenne fronts (which are awesome, by the way), and I believe this is the best way. The calipers are ordinary Boxster calipers. I paid $70 on eBay, but there are cheaper options at local scrapyards. I simply made these on my Clausing drill press with layout fluid and a nice 6" rule. I can post dimensions if anyone is interested, or I'd be happy to make them. These pictures are with NA rotors, but the calipers would be best fitted with turbo rotors. These rotors are junk anyway, so I plan to get Turbo rotors soon.
The bolts are not the ones I would use, they were just what I have around. My stock of M12 bolts is lacking... And yes, the caliper is upside down, it's just this side of the car was more available for fitting and I only have one caliper so far.

Re: Boxster Rear Calipers
If you can make me a pair or provide dimensions I would appreciate it. I just bought a 1987 944 shell (with a new paint job/Maraschino cherry).I have to make my brake decision and yours sounds pretty good!
Thanks in advance,
Barry

Re: Boxster Rear Calipers
I apologize I haven't posted this yet... My computer went down. Bad RAM module seems to be the root cause. Windows install was corrupted. It's back up on a fresh install. I still need to reinstall NX to create the drawing. I may have exported a dimensioned draft. I'll try and check this weekend. I can make them if anyone wants too.

Finally got the computer running again. Thanks to microcenter for allowing me to exchange my 2 bad sticks of ram yesterday.
EDIT: See post further down, made some updates to the drawing.

Adaptors
Hi, I'd be interested in an adaptor set for both front and rear calipers. I have a 944 race car that we are building into an endurance racer for WRL/AER. It will have an aluminum 5.3. I have a set of Boxster S calipers for the front that I'd like to mount to the turbo spindles. I'd also need a set of brackets for the rear and I'll pick up a set of boxster S rear calipers. It would be great if it stopped as well as it's going to go. I can be reached via email at cscowden@gmail.com.
Thanks
Chris
Thanks

Re: Boxster Rear Calipers
I made some changes to my drawing. If you run NA rotors (289mmx20mm), you can run base boxster rear calipers. See the drawing below.
The base calipers are not wide enough to run turbo rotors (299mmx24mm). You need Boxster S calipers for this. I believe these are the same caliper castings as the rears and base fronts, just different size pistons and made for a thicker (24mm) rotor.
For the fronts, you would use basically the second drawing, but there is a slightly different offset. I'm working on a drawing for Boxster S fronts with Turbo rotors for Chris still.

Re: Boxster Rear Calipers
Alright, I found an old XSchop drawing that gave me the distance I needed. This should be the drawing for the fronts using Boxster S calipers mounted to Turbo rotors. I'll make a test piece to send to Chris to verify for sure though.

Those are Boxster S calipers on Turbo fronts?
I think you can click the picture, or right click and "view image" to see the full picture.

Re: Boxster Rear Calipers
FYI, the hardest part is drilling and tapping the M12x1.5 holes perfectly straight. On one set, I attempted to hand tap the holes after drilling them on my mill, and the bolts would not thread in nicely. I had to use a tap center in the mill to get the bolts to go in smoothly.

Awesome! 996 are the same as Boxster S. Let me know if you run into problems mounting them. I haven't made my set for Chris yet.

Re: Boxster Rear Calipers
I have realized I made a stupid mistake. On the dimensions I give, there is one 12mm hole that is 7mm from an edge, and another 12mm hole that is 8mm from an edge. This won't work. I made these dimensions 9.5mm in my parts for Chris. Hoping everything fits. If not, I'll have to figure something out.

Re: Boxster Rear Calipers
You have Turbo S M030 spindles? Those are radial mount not axial mount.
