HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

High powered 944 turbo V8 conversion Question

Post  SwissRacing on Wed Aug 24, 2011 8:46 pm

So I finally have my donor car, its 944 turbo.

I'm wondering what the hp/tq limit is for the 944 transmission. I plan on tracking this car a lot so it has to be reliable.

I'm thinking 500-600hp, is this doable?

thanks!

Its not an easy answer. I have 385-410 at the rear (dyno'd twice), and have sheared axle shafts and axle shaft bolts twice. Since that time, i have used caution launching the car from a dead stop and have had no issues on the street or on the track, 500-600 should be possible GIVEN you drive with the understanding that you are right on the edge of breaking something, especially in the lower gears. My codriver tried to win a beer bet that it would pull the front wheels off the ground and wound up with ball bearings dropping out of the cv's. Expensive beer.

Check in on MichaelB's ride, he's supercharged, got to be well north of 500HP!

Any idea what his time was? At 400hp, I turn a 12.8, 120 mph on street tires. These cars are so light, that hp and torque are not the limiting factor to success on the track. I purposely limited hp to increase reliablility of the drivetrain.

I don't know what his time was. I think he has problems with tire spin. If you search videos you will find a short clip of him on the street and all he does is spin the tires. There are a few clips of his car after the supercharger.

I purposely limited hp to increase reliablility of the drivetrain.

This is why I am using a small displacement high RPM motor with a long duration cam. (302) The low end torque should be low enough so I should be able to get some traction.
