HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Lindsey Racing Radiator?
Hi I am new to the forum. I too have a 86 944NA putting in a LS1 from a 2001 TransAm. I have read a lot about using a radiator from a Turbo. Lindsey Racing makes a bigger billet radiator with or without a built in oil cooler. I am thinking this is a good option since it upgrades the performance from the already adequate turbo radiator. Thoughts? Has any one used one?

Much better fitting options out there, like the Wizard or Ron Davis radiator if you're planning on getting away from stock

Re: lS1 CONVERSION COOLING QUESTIONS
Buy a set of headers made for the car, not worth the pain and time trying to adapt manifolds or other headers.
I also just upgraded from 2002 Camaro manifolds to headers with dual 2.5" pipes, the performance gains are significant.

Re: lS1 CONVERSION COOLING QUESTIONS
I switched from a turbo radiator to a Wizard and it did not help my overheating issues at all. Then I vented the hood and cooling was much improved. The Wizard is a very tight fit but has all the same mounting points and hose fittings.
That's my $.02.

I looked at the Ron Davis radiators they all seem to be 2 row 1" tubes as is the Wizard. That is what the Lindsey Racing radiator is and it will fit in an NA 944 although the Wizard is a bit cheaper. Rich when you say tight fit how do you mean. Clearing the engine accessory drives or in the supports? I am also looking to do hood vents. Did you cut your hood or buy a fiberglass one? I am thinking about getting a GT racing fiberglass hood and adding their vents to it. If you have a pic of the vents you have. I'd really like to see it.

I mostly mean the supports. The fans go on and space to the f-body accessory drive is reasonable. But getting the radiator in on it's mounts was way more difficult than the stock turbo rad. The Wizard went in, but it's exactly the biggest that would make it in there.
And here are my hood vents.

Re: lS1 CONVERSION COOLING QUESTIONS
I recently swapped out my used Turbo radiator for a new Turbo radiator and the difference was noticable. I never hit higher than about 210F on the street (it was about 75 degrees outside), when I was hitting the typical LS 230F in stop and go traffic before. I'll be hitting the track for the first time at Putnam May 9th, so I'll let you know the verdict. I'm caustiously optimistic at the moment though. Running stock Turbo fans at the moment too. Kind of hard to beat the fitment around my hoses and such, so I'm hoping it works.

You get the Ron Davis radiator from Renegade Hybrids. Not sure Ron Davis sells them on their own

Re: lS1 CONVERSION COOLING QUESTIONS
Don't need an electric water pump.
Depends where you live, if you're running AC, are you doing sprints or enduros, etc.
I've had to add a secondary radiator but most people haven't had to do that. I do still have AC though, so having the condenser in front of the radiator doesn't help...

I'm running the Ron Davis, with a full fan shroud and 16" Spal fan that runs on high. I've got 4 hood vents, custom ducting and have added the auxiliary radiator from a 2004-2007 Audi S4.

And you track your car I'm guessing? We're did you put second rad and how do you vent/burp the system?

Re: lS1 CONVERSION COOLING QUESTIONS
Yes, I track the car here in Colorado. So the bad combination of high ambient temps and thin air.
Radiator is V mounted on the passenger side, gets air ducted by the lower part of the grill and the fog light hole.
Gets burped normally, the overflow tank is still the highest part of the system.

Re: lS1 CONVERSION COOLING QUESTIONS
I've got a 91' S2 about to undergo LS1 conversion. Radiator is "new" only about 1 year old.
Is the S2 radiator the same as the turbo radiator that many guys are using?
My radiator fans make the car sound like a jet engine about to take off. Is there a quieter alternative?
I'm in a hot part of the country and I want to run AC. What's the BEST cooling solution possible?
