For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I took my car in to get the exhaust done a couple weeks ago. When I took it to the shop I noticed it wasn't running like it was... I just took the plugs out because I figured they where fouled from the engine being run without the O2's being hooked up.
The number 2 cylinder is not firing at all by the looks of it...
The number 2 spark plug wire appears to be fine. I have ordered a new set of wires because I found one burnt wire and one with a cracked boot. I thought the burnt wire was the cause Crying or Very sad
Also, does anyone have any idea why the passenger side plugs are not as black as the drivers? Should they not be the same? What else can I check?

Here's what the plugs look like (in order).

I should also mention... The number 2 spark plug was wet with gas so its not the injector

Black is rich and may be related to your running your car w/o o2 sensor and a bad tune. Why #2 isn't firing and wet is interesting, how old is your cap/rotor? If you hook up a spark tester does it get spark. The wire may be bad. Summit racing was having a sale on summit 8.5mm wires for the LT1 $69. I bought a set.

Ya, I figured the plugs where fouled and needed to be cleaned up... Could the injector be clogged or not spraying right? The car hasn't been run much in the last year... Would the plug still get wet if the injector was malfunctioning?

The cap / rotor is a MSD unit... It was on the engine when I bought it. I don't think its that old.

One or two injectors could be hung open.

If the injectors where hung open would they not be constantly running and flood the engine badly? I wouldn't be surprised if they where clogged from sitting for so long.
It's just weird to me that the #2 plug was a little wet. The #4 plug was a little wet too....
I'm going to take them out and clean them. I've watched a couple diy cleaning techniques on youtube. Hopefully they work; if not I'm going to get a new set of injectors.... lol It never ends!

Has anyone ever tried cleaning there injectors before?

I do it on every engine that I install, If a motor sits for more than a month or two it's just not worth the head ache to me to have possible problems upon start up. A can of sea foam and a few hours then hit them with a battery and they'll start working.

I've heard of that stuff before... Is that the spray you spray in the throttle body? That would be alot easier than taking each injector out...

Thanks Eric

Can someone take a look at these plugs? Empty ls1 series /fouled plugs

Post  GMMASTERTECH Tue Jul 19, 2011 10:59 am

Hey guys you just came to play in my ballfield. the plugs are fouled with fuel due to the pcm placing the system into open loop "non-feedback default" with the post 02 sensors unpluged the default value is adding 2.75 percent of fuel based on the 128 block learn value(center point) for every 5 degrees of eengine tempeture with a start baseline of 172 degrees. this is to prevent uncle General from buying engines from lean conditions when people start playing with the factory exhaust.
What to do trow the NKG plugs in the trash and install A/C 41-110 p/n 12621258 plugs ---After the exhaust is complete and the pre cat o2 sensors are operating (are you programming out the post cat o2 sensors?? drive the vehicle with a warm engine (210 degrees) at 2k rpm for approx 2 miles this will clean up the combustion process. Do you have a tech11 or access to one? if so go to diagnostic then special functions then misfire graph. look for any misfires (cylinder combustion misfire inside the chamber) if so locate the cylinder and swap a known good coil pack and wire from that cylinder to the missfiring cylinder. your pic also looks like #4 plug/cylinder is not fueling see how that plug is dust white ? check and make sure the injector is pluged in and seated well. hope this helps let me know

When I first completed the swap, my entire driver's side cylinders were misfiring. I had the passenger head grounded at the rear and so I grounded the driver's side head and never had a problem since. I believe the headgaskets are not very conductive.

I was running the car without o2's for awhile thats why the plugs are black. Another reason is the tune. Right now the tune is stock. When i first started it up it ran mint... Now there's a noticable vibration which I thought was a burnt wire.
I've got 2 thick grounds on the block and 2 at the heads... I'll take another look when I get home... Maybe I can move them around... Never thought of that.
The exhaust is complete now and I have the o2's hooked up (this is on a LT1 btw). I'm going to check to make sure all the plugs are firing tonight... Hopefully that opti's not bad... it's a MSD and it's not that old...

Unfortunatly I don't have a scanner...

Thanks for the help

I've got both sides of the intake manifold grounded to the battery, a ground on the bellhousing going to the battery & both fronts of the cylinder heads are grounded to the frame rails....

It makes sense to me that I have a problem with a ground somewhere going by what xschop said. I have no idea where to look though... What can I do?

I'll check for spark when it gets dark out and its not 105 outside....

ok... I said screw it and went out and checked for spark. Everything is ok there

I also rented a noid light kit... All the injectors will light up the noid light.

I ohm'd out the injectors:

1 - 12.9
2 - 12.8
3 - 12.9
4 - 12.9
5 - 12.8
6 - 13.1
7 - 12.9
8 - 13.0

It's has to be dirty injectors.... Eric, when you said get some seafoam, do you take them off the fuel rail and let them soak? Then put a little 12v battery on them to activate them?

Good to know... I bought some refurbished 24lb injectors from a svt mustang... They flow the same as the stock injectors at the same pressure and are the newer design which atomizes the fuel better. I figured if I have to take them all out, I might as well replace them now.

Thanks again for the help,
