Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

racing harness?
Looking for a set of red racing harnesses. I did not know what a good brand was that would not break my wallet too hard. I know some brands are what you pay for but others are just crazy priced.
any help would be nice, i have no seat belts at the moment.

Re: racing harness?
What are you going to be using them for? Some organizations won't allow you to run expired harnesses, some don't care.
G force, Schroth, Sparco make good harnesses. I've always run the Schroth's, I buy them from HMS Motorsport...

Re: racing harness?
I am just needing some seat belts of some kind in my car. I have no plans to turn full race so just daily driving and the occasional road burn.
what do you mean expire harness?

Racing harnesses are only valid until a specific year. They're still good but you cannot race with them.

Re: racing harness?
Harnesses have expiration dates where you can no longer run them for racing due to damage caused by UV to the webbing and stiching.
Running a harness on a street car is a humongous PITA. If you are wearing them properly you won't be able to move around in your seat, look over your shoulder while merging in traffic etc.
If you wear them loose so you can move around, you're negating all the safety you get from the harnesses.
I highly recommend you just install and wear the factory 3 point seat belts for street driving.

Re: racing harness?
I understand what u are saying. I would prefer harnesses with passenger belt too.
Do the harnesses attach to a harness bar?

Re: racing harness?
So why do you want the harnesses again? If you're not going to be racing, they suck to use on the street.
At that point, you're better off with just the factory 3 point belts, especially since you don't have a rollbar or seats that will accomodate a sub strap. Both are integral to using harnesses safely.

Re: racing harness?
I have a harness bar and seats that are designed to run shoulder straps and lap belts. I can run a sub strap through the very front of the seat if necessary and if really needed I will run one through the middle by cutting the pad.
I do plan on racing on occasion and I drive mountain roads every time I take the car out, I do not have properly working 3 points so they are pointless any way.
In the end I would like harnesses for the provided extra safety since I have already had one life threatening car wreck where my 84 300zx crushed in 4 ft and I was slammed into the steering wheel from the improper functioning 3 point safety system, leaving my with a many complications and a military related brain injury.

Re: racing harness?
Then I strongly suggest taking the harness bar out and throwing it in the garbage. Get a properly welded rollbar into the car, buy unexpired harnesses and run a proper sub strap.
Get a set of functioning stock 3 point seat belts in the car for street driving. The harnesses are completely unsafe and unsuitable for street duty.
