For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Smart way to fill it! ThanksLemming wrote:I have the cooler set up so that it can be dropped easily. When I added oil, the cooler was below the level of the trans and I also turned the rear wheels to make sure the cooler filled. I then put the plug in the case and mounted the cooler. So, when not moving the trans is overfilled.

Hydroboost is installed and brake lines attached. Sitting on the lift I can feel the effect of the HB, even without a restrictor. Will have to get it out in the hood this weekend to see how it works.

HB and coil packs are mounted and all appears to be working.

Since I haven’t actually pulled a TT yet, I don’t fully understand. Could you elaborate a little bit?Lemming wrote:Here's an update on my summer build.
3. Cut out the spare tire well;
Completed. This makes pulling the TT a breeze, no need to drop the torsion carrier.

The torque tube can be slid straight back and out of the car with the spare tire well cut out. Normally the entire torsion bar assembly has to be dropped which is a PITA to do.
Torque tube replacement was one of the worst jobs i have ever experienced working on a car.

Thanks!
I was going to put the battery back there but I don’t need the entire well. Does it have to be entirely cut out flat for the TT to clear? Could I leave the top 11-12 inches?

See the pic that I posted, it needs to be cut at least to that point. You will still need to remove the exhaust heat shield and rear bracket to be able to pull the TT out without dropping the torsion carrier.
I originally had my battery in the spare well, but moved it to the rear of the passenger compartment. Even with a full size battery, you can still fit a race seat.

Did moving the battery from the tail to low center change any characteristics of the car, like cornering/braking/traction? Where did you mount the master switch?Lemming wrote:

Nothing that I noticed on track, but certainly affected by corner weights. My cutoff switch sticks out of the hood directly above the stock battery location.

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
New front end is installed, splitter is once again made from plywood. I decided not to cut any more holes in the front end and instead to feed the brakes from two naca ducts located on the headers. Still have body work and paint to finish the project. Radiator was also ducted to the front end for better cooling.

Nice! Did you put a turbo bumper bar in behind the bumper cover? Would love to see the hardware you used to attach the splitter. I like the naca ducts for eyes.

No turbo bumper, just 8 dzus fasteners. The splitter center extends back to the crossmember and attaches there as well. I'll try to get a pic of the setup.
Naca ducts and front end will all be in black.

Drove around the hood again today, venturing a bit further since there will be no police out (collage football!). It is apparent that I will need just my big toe to stop the car Will find out for sure in two weeks when I get back out on track.
Rich,
Pics of the setup are below.

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
Just curious, how thick is that splitter and what does it weigh? From the pictures, it's looks like you're ready to baja the car or planning a serious trip beyond the track-out or braking zone!

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
Yes, it's not lightweight, I believe that it's 3/8". I tried 1/4 in the past and it was too thin, required multiple stays and still tended to droop. This is the first time that I've extended the splitter back so far, in the past if extended back to the radiator and I used the metal 924 under tray. I may end up removing the rear portion and installing something lighter.

That thing looks serious!
A suggestion - take a good size hole saw drill bit and lighten it up a bit. If you're worried about the air coming through, you can always put a piece of sheet metal as a skin over it.

This is great stuff. Thanks for sharing pictures. Where does your tow hook attach to the frame? What do you use for trailer tie downs, lasso the front wheels?
I plan to tackle body work to improve aero this winter. Were you happy with the product and dealings with Broadfoot? Know anything about AIR and how their products compare?
Rich

The tow hook is attached to the drivers side frame rail, where the bumper shock absorber used to mount. I'll get a pic next time the front end it off.
I had a positive experience with Broadfoot, I believe I got my front end 3 weeks after placing my order. The front end is very nice, definitely a nicer piece then I've gotten from other venders (GT racing).

Re: Tim's 944LS1 track car build!
No doubt Broadfoot makes a nice product, but the internet is filled with stories of how it took them 6-9 months, or more, to finally deliver it.
I'm glad that didn't happen to you, but anyone thinking about buying from them needs to read the stories and then make their decision.

I have to admit that I was concerned. However, I spoke with Kelly a number of times on the phone during the process and she was great to deal with. I would buy from them again, YMMV.

Splitter
The car looks really good and I like the looks of the splitter. I doubt I’ll ever need one for air diffusion since I won’t be trying to be competitive on the track, but it sure looks like it strengthens the fiberglass front well. I’m sure your car sits pretty low. Does it seem to protect the front, any issues running on rumble strips, track debris etc.?

The car is low and this front end is lower than my last. I cannot even get the car off the lift with it on The front end will be removed for transport to and from the track.
I'm guessing the splitter sits about 2-3" off the ground, so rumble strips should not be a problem, I hope Car has not been on the track yet with the new setup, but I'll be test and tuning at little talladega on Saturday, then at Barber the following weekend.
Now I need to think about rockers and a diffuser
