HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Gas mileage?

Post  docwyte on Mon May 30, 2011 10:55 am

I know xschop has mentioned getting 27mpg out of his 5.3. What are you guys getting with the 5.7 LS1?

It's hard to say for sure what mpg I'm getting as when I'm doing a long trip I'm towing my tire trailer behind the car and the rest of the time the mileage is skewed because of track sessions.

Recently on a long freeway trip, cruise control set at 80mph, factory Turbo S transmission, towing my tire trailer I got 17 mpg. I figure the tire trailer costs me around 5 mpg, so maybe I'd get 23 mpg cruising on the freeway without the tire trailer.

That seems a little low. Air fuel ratio is good, jumping at stoich while cruising.

Just curious if I'm in the ball park or others are getting far better mpg than I am....

I'd try and push 15s for cruising. That should help you get into the 20s.

Doc, what RPM are you turning at 80? Remember the LS motor likes to cruise at around 2000RPM. That's where the best MPG is at. So maybe at 55MPH you could see those 27MPG.... Shocked Anything above 10MPG for a 370+ motor should be great. Razz

Eric, turning WAY too high at 80mph! Much better with the Turbo S transmission vs the S2 transmission though, now I turn 3250 rpm, with the S2 it was 3650 rpm!

I wish there was a way to add an overdrive 6th gear to drop rpm another 1000 for freeway cruising, then I'd see 2250 at 80mph.

Car ran great at the track this past weekend. Your new motor mount/uprights are awesome, thanks!

I'm at about 17-18 mpg in mixed driving with my LS1 and the Turbo 5th gear. I haven't done a long trip yet so I don't know what I get on the highway. I have a much taller 5th that I'll install at some point which should drop me from around 3000 rpm @ 70mph on the highway down to about 2200-2300. That should increase my highway gas mileage by about 25% or so.

There is a guy up in the NW who has done a ring gear, R&P, and/or 5th gear set for the GT40 replica crowd. I talked to him a while back and he offered to do the same for us LS1 944 guys, the price being at least $1500. In fact it might have been much more $ than that (like $4500), I really don't remember.

No too helpful I guess, but if anyone's interested in talking to the guy I'll have his info tomorrow when I'm at my work computer.

How much are the 6 speed 968 transaxles going for? Would that help at all in this matter?

I was knocking down 27 or so with the NA box. With the 951 box and NA 5th installed, it is right at 30.
Look at a set of 4.8/5.3L fuel injectors and LS1 5.7L injectors....sip vs. guzzle, not to mention that the 5.3L was put into something that pushed almost 2k it's weight.

Injector size shouldn't matter. It's all about the tune.

My point was the fact that it has a lower flow rate at a given pressure points to less fuel consumption. Also I like the fact that I stick in 87 octane.

With the N/A 5th gear and 40/60 mix between city and highway I'm pulling an average of 23mpg on the last three fill-ups....

SSP wiring just tuned it on the bench. I told them to remove the rear O2's, and they were surprised when I told them I made the 5.3 injectors fit the LS1 intake.

Also at Doc and Danford, you guys have lower MPG's because of your altitude.

I used to get 28mpg highway (20mpg city) on my stock LT1. I currently get 20mg highway and 15 city now.

Not unhappy with the gas mileage by any means...I get 12 in my early Bronco Very Happy

Very happy with the entire package that Eric built and after 1500 trouble free miles, I couldn't be happier driving the car daily again!

The 968 6 speed box would be perfect if you could replace the factory 6th gear with a very tall gear...

I think the 6-speed box is too close ratio for the v8. The gears would need to be much more spread out...

I get about 23, but i need to work on my tune some more.

Allen is putting custom gears into his 968 box Shocked Not too outlandish for someone that sticks on a 911 Turbo nose to his 968 either. Cool

What wrong with the 911 nose. My 924 has the 997 TT GT3 complete front end and back end and i think it looks sharp.

Gas grade and mileage

Post  fliermike45 on Thu Feb 16, 2012 9:24 pm

I'm curious what grade of gas you guys are using? Not being a EFI guy I would assume that the knock sensor will adjust for a lower grade of gas if pinging occurs???

Would appreciate an honest guide to rural city gas mileage for a C5 LS1 with Turbo box/NA 5th.
I get into 5th As soon as I reach the published speed limit.
