HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

What transmissions will that fit?
Is there any way to get a taller gear for the 924 Audi box? I am tired of turning my SBC 3000 on the highway!

I was tired of that too. This 5th gear set is what the track/racers look for. As for box fitment, maybe V8carrera will chime in. I know that Audi 5000 and 100 gearsets fit the 944 boxes. I'm still hunting down NOS taller ratios out of those diesel boxes. If you get rid of the wheel well you can do the swap without removing the Trans

If you have a 924 016 you already have the better ratio. What you need is a different ring and pinion. The easiest way to do this is to swap to a 951 box and use the 5th gear from your 924 box. The next easiest way is to use a ring and pinion from Albins gear. You can get them from California Motorsports but they are not cheap---more than you would pay for a 951 box.
If you use the 951 box you also need the torque tube and a different clutch disc.

The 951, 944S had a .83. The 924S and 944S2 is the same as the early 944 and 81-2 924 turbo which is .73.

To V8, What is the exact shaft center to center on the 951 trans? I didn't measure it when I had it apart. Is it standard or metric?

I don't know the dimension but I would think it would be metric. I don't have any loose case parts so I can't measure it.

Re: 951 5th gear set...$200 shipped
What could be done is a taller gearset with the same shaft centers could be grafted into the 944-gearset. I've seen it done before. Some places reweld and regrind gearsets. I'm thinking .55 would be ideal ratio, for me anyways. The Higher HP cars could use even lower ratios and still get 5th gear pull on the freeway without downshifting.

Maybe you should call California Motorsports. 928-855-5755
They have tons of stuff that you can't find anywhere else. I got my G31 1st gear dog teeth from them. I found out they had them when I tried to buy 930 dog teeth to modify for it. Maybe they have the Euro 5th gear set you were looking for or know where to get it.
