HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I was wondering whats the easyiest way to do so. Should i bolt the bell housing to the engine or just bolt it to the torque tube and mount it that way. I thought it might be easyier to bolt everything up to the engine then slide the axle into the bellhousing. Does anyone know the correct distance the axle needs to be prutruded out of the tube. I wanted to check to make sure. I am very close to get this thing installed and running.

First you need to install without the bellhousing to make sure you have proper torque tube shaft engagment on the pilot bearing. Also, removing the crossmember and rack and pinion makes things alot easier when installing the engine.

That makes sence. I have the engine mounted to the crossmember with out my manual rack or shaft on it. so leave the bellhousing for last. Install engine with out bellhousing and see where the axle sits in the pilot bearing. I was going to roll it under the car and pull it up through the engine bay and slide it on the axle. wonce i get the motor in and bolted up should i measure the distance between the face of the tube to where the bell housing bolts to the engine. then measure the bellhousing and adapter. does that make sence.

If you install without the bellhousing / clutch / pressure plate you will be able to see how much of the tip is actually in the pilot bearing. I can't remember how much you want; you'll have to do some searching on here.
Then you have to take some measurements to see if you need any shims in the hydrualic throwout bearing before you bolt everything together. You can google that and see how thats done too.

You will need to install the motor and attach it to the bell housing to get an accurate measurement on the pilot bearing insertion depth.
I attached the bell housing to the adapter plate then the motor to the bell housing ,with the uprights attached loosely, then attached the uprights loosely to the cross member. Once the cross member was attached to the frame and the motors weight was settled, I tightened up the uprights. When the motor is securely in you can get an accurate measurement on the pilot bearing depth.
