HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

    Oil priming Empty Oil priming

Has anyone found a way to priming the oil system on a fresh build if the pump was not primed by hand when installed? I am hoping this is the problem. I cleaned the pump and did not think about filling with oil first before install. Now I am not getting oil out of my oil tubes on initial cranks.

Before some one tells me to pull the plugs and crank away, I will tell you that I have been doing that with no results.

I pulled the sensor and forced oil into the block from the top. I then received to my surprise oil on the floor from my return line on my oil relocation kit. I then hooked up both lines and a filter and resumed trying to feed the oil into the top of the block. Still no go on the pressure.

I blew through he feed line and heard the oil bubble in my pan so i know that there is flow to it, and I then used a vacuum of sorts to pull oil out of the block and in to the filter in while my wife cranked the engine, still no go.

I am beginning to wonder if the oil starvation due to clogged pick up tube that lead to this rebuild would have torn up my pump? That is my last place to think, I have installed this motor three times and this is the only time I have had trouble with the pressure not feeding oil to the filter.

    Oil priming Empty Priming

    Colin,
I'm not an expert but some aircraft engines can be primed via a gallery plug.
Is there any such access point on these LS motors?

Oil plunger in rear of block under cover...IT MUST BE THERE! Make 100% sure it's there....

There's a metal one under the front cover too....

If you can't build pressure from cranking, you're probably not going to build it while running. Check your oil filter lines...you might have reversed them! Smile

    ...ask me how i know!

nope checked the lines, the return line runs on the back side and up to the sender. And the feed line is closest to the front of the engine.

I am not getting flow through the lines. I pulled the pump and took it apart, it looks cut up with some scorch marks, I am thinking the pump fried with lack of oil on my last build. I will pull something out and buy a new one.

Pack the new oil pump with vaseline petroleum jelly when you re-install it. That will prime the pump.

Dont know if it was the o ring or the pump, I tore the lower end down with the engine suspended and took apart the pump and pickup. I cleaned the pump up and primed it by hand with some new oil. Now after about 10 slow cranks the pressure builds up to 32 psi or so.

I dont know what it was but I am happy the pressure is back up. Now for the radiator and everything to go back in. Thanks for the inputs they helped track down what ever the problem was.
