HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

90 Cab swap
Ok so 3 days in and motor is out of the 83 and I stripped the car clean. The 90 3.0l motor is out, swapped to the early clutch master, swapped to the hydroboost and massaged the frame rails for clearance. Tomorrow AM install the motor and wiring. Hopefully I'll have a running car by Friday.

Massaged? is that the nice way of saying you hit it with a hammer? lol.
Just curious on what hydroboost you are going to run? I have the Ford one myself, but yet to get it installed.
This build goes fast if you have all the parts, so Friday is not unreasonable if you work on it for a few hours a day.

Re: 90 Cab swap
Ok, so everything needing a hoist is done. Hydroboost is in and plumbed. All that's left is electrical, headlight bucket install and install the front nose panel. The Alternator and starter were wired with the stock Porsche loom (which fit amazingly) and I tested that it does crank. A couple of Questions:
1) why are there 2 temp inputs under the hood, which one do I use?
2) Are there any accurate pinouts for the under dash connectors for the S2(check engine light and tach).
Thanks,

Ok I figured out #1. Does anyone know the under dash pinouts for the tach and CEL.

Re: 90 Cab swap
Oops. Sorry Timmy. I keep missing this thread. Im assuming youre trying to get the big red exclamation light to come on as your Mil lamp for the LT1???
Connector T40 at pin 4 should trip the big red exclamation light on the dash.
Is this what youre trying to do?

Nope, I disabled that stupid thing. My dash has a *Check Engine* light that was working with the old DME. I think it actually because standard in 91 but mine being a late 90 car has one.

Meh. I dont have a schematic on that. You know those bulb holder 1/4 turn thingys on the rear of the cluster? Just pull the one for the check engine light out from behind the cluster, solder your wires to it and plug it back in. That would be the fastest/easiest.

Put down the emergency brake handle!
Seriously, theres soooo many things that could trigger that to turn on. If it bothers you, either track down whats causing it to be on or take the bulb out.

Warning light
Low oil level (on the 944) will trip that light.

I think that is only 87 and later cars. His is an 86, they didn't have the oil level sensor.

Re: 90 Cab swap
Hey Dawgz, the input on your cluster should be connector "C" pin 6, if used its a Green wire, but i had to look at a later wiring diagram because your car didnt show a pin for CEL, it had that unused. You would need to provide this pin with a ground signal, which is great because that is what the PCM provides. So basically just run the CEL wire from the PCM to pin C6 and your golden!!!

Yep! But remember, if it wasnt used on your car, there may not be a wire there. You may need to add one.
I hope this helps,
Mark

My car had a functioning Check Engine light on the dash. IDK why the diagrams don't list it, but it used to light up and go away when the car was being started.

Re: 90 Cab swap
I just want to verify, grn/blk is the tach wire right? That is number 2 under the dash, but on my car there are 2 wires that are combined on #2, is that normal?

Re: 90 Cab swap
Yeah, connector T1 [passengers compartment footwell] at pin 2 is the GN/BK wire. This braches off at pin 2 to the T26 diagnosis plug in the engine compartment.
You can also grab this wire at pin 3 of Plug B behind the instrument cluster.
I made you a simplified shematic of the wire path.

No problem. To be honest, the schematic wasnt really for you... I know you know where its at but for others who search.... there it be.
