HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Used engine question, would you be concerned about buying one from a car that was rolled?
Total bummer last week, i missed out on a great deal on a LS2 about an hour and a half from me.. it sucks working offshore sometime!
Anyhow, i found another LS2 from a TBSS not far from me at a salvage yard. My only concern is that the truck it came from was rolled over and i wonder if this might not be such a great idea to buy. They said the engine ran great prior to it being removed and its actually sitting in the show room right now. Any thoughts on this?
Secondly, can any engine wire harness and ECM be used with this engine? I figure i will ask them if they have both they could maybe throw in to sweeten the deal on the engine if i decide to buy it. I am not sure, but thought perhaps there were minor differences in the wire harness between say the GTO, TBSS and C6.

My only concern would be if it ran out off oil. What truck is it from? Also I live in Queens New York and wonder where you are located in L.I.

Truck is an '08 TrailBlazer SS. I have the same concern about it being starved of oil when it was on its side or upside down (not sure which). But i wonder if the fuel cut would have come on first or it would have stalled.
I am not too far, in Oyster Bay.

Im sure they offer some sort of warranty? Atleast a 30 day or something. If you buy it, have a look at the oil and then immediately pull the pan and check all the bearings/journals. If all is relatively normal, replace the bearings and off you go. Besides, you're going to have to pull the pan regardless in order to replace it with one that will fit in the 944. However, if you get the pan off and the bearings are not normal (and you dont want to rebuild it), you should be able to take it back.
But I find it hard to believe the engine was running upside down since they have an inertia switch to immediately shut down the engine in case of a roll over.
As far as harnesses, get the harness that is correct for intake you plan on using. Whereas any harness can be modified to work, if you are planning to switch the trailblazer intake to a corvette intake, its best to have the harness and ECU from a corvette. I myself had absolutely no problem reworking the LS3 corvette harness so I know those are good to start with.

Very good point about needing to drop the pan anyhow, i hadnt thought of that. I called them earlier and they actually dont have the harness for it (my guess is they cut it out), so i would need to find one anyhow.
The asking price is fairly high, $4500 and it has about 40k miles on it. I think i am going to see if they will take around $2500 for it if i come with cash and hand to pick it up. Ill call tomorrow to see about a warranty and perhaps make my offer..

I havent had time to call the salvage yard yet, but i am going to on Monday. I have been trying to get my 2.5L back together as i have a track day coming up.
I am also going to call a Chevy dealer in PA Monday about a possible discount if a buddy of mine and i buy 2 LS3 crate engines.. depending how that works out i may just forget about finding a used engine. I sent you an PM on Rennlist.
