When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Newb ? - Is/Can ABS be maintained with the swap

Post  roamer on Sun Mar 20, 2011 2:34 pm

I apologize, I tried searching, but to no avail. I am looking to do the swap and a major consideration is being able to maintain abs in a factory-equipped donor. With the modification to the master cylinder and power booster, can the system continue to operate? I recall reading about electronic boosters, which I assume would be necessary to ensure proper operation of the system.

Any insight or referrals would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Mine still works. Even the cruise works. They are a totally seperate system.

Thanks. So, just so I am clear, you are running an un-boosted system and your abs continues to function?

Your ABS will work with or without the boost, Unless you remove it or the electrical power to it.

HOWEVER - I disabled mine because I (and a few others) run a larger tire in the rear. You can only have a 1-2% difference between the front and rear tire size. In my case the rear tires are something like 5-6% larger.

It's really a question of how you're going to be driving it. Personally i think the the larger tires (285/35) make the car much more driveable on a daily basis, and the help a little on the freeway too. If this is a track car then the ABS may be more useful to you.

Thanks Porch, so the system uses speed differences to determine allocation of braking force rather than simply responding after a lockup (a good thing).
