HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Oil Pan interferes with pick up tube/screen
I obtained my Oil Pan from Greg Sloan, today I decided to swap the pan on my LS1 with the intent of making a trial fit in the car.
Problem, my C5 Vette motor's oil screen and pick up tube interferes with the tray in the oil pan.
Do I have to switch out the tube/screen for one from a different car? Help please guys, thanks.

Re: Oil Pan interferes with pick up tube/screen
Not sure if I understand, can you get a picture?
I had to grind/hammer out the foot area to mount the pickup tube. I had a modified pickup tube that lengthened the tube to put it closer to the bottom of the sump.
Are you saying yours is sitting at the bottom of the sump with the pickup tube screen touching the bottom of the sump?

If you got a modded Moroso 20140, then you'll need the matching pick-up tube. I shortened my 5.3L truck PU tube and made it fit, was a PITA.

Oil pick up tube and pan.
Here are some pics of my parts.
Oil pan I got from Sloan, I stood it up perpendicular to the block to show the relationship with the oil
screen/pick up.
Any (simple) ideas?
Is this a Moroso Oil Pan, I see they offer an extended pick up tube?

Hey look on the bright side. At least you got your oil pan mailed to you.

Pan
Yes, I was lucky, being Sloan's first customer for a complete kit I got everything I ordered,
Its the later Items I ordered that he renaged on.
Thanks for the heads up, I see now that I have a Moroso pan and now another 100 bucks, does it ever end, of course not, that's why we do these projects.

You need a new pick up tube. Make sure you check the welds. Just sayin.

Re: Oil Pan interferes with pick up tube/screen
You can probably sell the F-body tube to a 4.8/5.3/6.0 swapper. I'm doing a brake kit for a guy that just put in the 6.0 ironblock truck engine into a C5 with a blown LS1 block (they're not NOS friendly)....He just about stole that chassis. And yes projects never end. I'm also working on yet another 944 EARLY NA bolt-on brake upgrade (no hub machining needed)
Also looks like a nice weld job was done on that pan. You know you can do a home-brew leak test that requires no pressure. Just add blue or red food color dye to some ethanol and let it puddle/set over the welds. If there's even a micropore, you'll see the color perfuse within seconds.

That dye test would have been good to know prior to installing the pan. If it has to come off again to fix a leak I am going to weld it from the inside. Both of my pans I got from Greg looked great but the welds leaked, probably were subbed out. I am sure they were leak tested but with water which has too high of surface tension to show a small leak.
