HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I'm ready to hook up my harness and also want to confirm some hose hook ups.

Picture 1 is on the driver's side of the intake, a hose goes from here to where???

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Picture 2 is on the rear of the intake manifold, a hose goes from here to where?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Picture 3, This hose goes to the front of the passenger side valve cover, where should it connect to?

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Many thanks.

#1 Evap canister for emissions = if you are using them. If not remove it and cap the vacuum port.

#2 Vacuum port for brake booster. cap with a good quality cap.

#3 I need to see where it's connected to. if it hooks on the valve cover, it's art of the PVC system.

Hey Mike, the tube up front goes into the throttle body or the LS intake. If you don't have emissions, just cap everything and use Autozone #PCV-1009 on one of the valve cover ports.

LS1 engine hook ups. Empty LS1 Plumbing

Post  fliermike45 Mon Aug 15, 2011 3:22 pm

Thanks for your input guys.

I looked at a photo of my engine as received with a C5 Electric TB and see that the hose in pic 3 was connected to a port on the TB (see pic). My cable operated TB does not have this port.
Further research indicates that this is the "Fresh Air Line" input to the passenger side valve cover.

I also tore apart the PCV line in Pic 2, here is the PC Valve in its grounding clip. New valve is a Purolator PV1063 (See pic)

During my on-line research I read about LS1's having high oil consumption and fouling caused by oil mist being fed via the PCV back into the intake manifold.

One suggested solution is to install a catch can in the PCV line, another is to switch to the LS6 PCV system, but that requires a new valley cover. What experiences do the LS1 drivers have with oil consumption?

Mike,

No personal experience yet. But my reading turned up the '04+ LS6 valley cover and hose, no PCV required. Looks neat & tidy:

Don't forget about the small vacuum port under the MAP sensor.
