Got what I needed power wise for my time trial class. Here's what I did so you guys can save a bunch of money vs spending twice like I did...

My motor is an '02 Camaro SS motor, so it came with the LS6 intake manifold and throttle body. Other than that, it's stock internally, so stock 241 heads and bottom end.

I have a straight shot intake, the air filter is hidden beneath my header panel. I'm using a large air filter from the F body K&N CAI, but I kinda doubt that's all that much better than a normal cone type filter.

I'm running an EPS (Engine Power Systems) 226-230 cam, the S&P shorty headers and no cats, dumping into a dual 2.5" exhaust with X pipe and 1 magnaflow straight through dual in/out muffler.

With this setup I made 372rwhp. I know Eclou made 375rwhp with basically the same setup, so it should be boiler plate.

With a 224/224 cam and cats I made 335rwhp...

Can we get a sound clip of the magnaflow dual/dual?? Im currently looking for a muffler and have dual 2.5s going to the rear and was thinking of doing the magnaflow dual in dual out but was unsure of the sound.

Whats the part number of that muffler?

Can you post some pics of the exhaust system?

Here are some pictures of the exhaust system. No video yet, need to wait for winter to loosen its grip some. Not sure on the muffler part #, will need to dig through my receipts to find it. I bought it from Summit Racing, I think it's 18" long...

Yep, with relatively little work needed as well. Just the cam and test pipes really. I did switch out the intake, but I'm not sure how much difference that made.

I installed an 18" Mag and it's the perfect size. Also good to hear you hit the 375 mark. Double check your CV bolts back there.

My experience so far is consistent with a similar setup.

I haven't done any tuning yet, but saw 370whp on our first dyno run - Mustang dyno. This was just a stock F-body PCM tune. It was running a bit rich and needs more tuning. We only ran it up to 6,100 and the hp was climbing the whole way. Torque was over 300 from about 2,400 all the way past 5k.

We haven't done any drive ability or WOT tuning yet, so I'll report back once we've got it back on the dyno and sorted. My tuner-guy says we should approach 400whp without any further mods. Sounds like the intake and heads are the limiting factor as it stands.

'04 GTO motor, stock 241 heads with 228/228, .588/.588 112 LSA cams, race springs, 7.40 pushrods. Straight thru intake with the K&N filter under the header panel. I did use the S&P shorty headers, an h-pipe and dual 2.5" exhaust much like what docwyte has pictured, except I'm running cats and dual mufflers.

Just the other day it passed Oregon DEQ with fantastic numbers, the lady doing the sniff test gave me a pat on the back for bringing in an old German car that was running so clean! I didn't mention the heart transplant, just accepted the compliment and got my tags!

The Dynojet I used up here is consistently within 1-2hp of the local Mustang dynos.

I don't think I could get more hp without going to long tube headers, then swapping out the heads.

Just curious, how does the idle compare between the new cam and the previous 224 cam? Second on the sound clips when you get a chance!

I installed it where it would fit. I had to get Cats, Flex pipes , clamps and 5 or sensor all in the same area.

Looks great!

Totally off-subject, but since it came up...i was running the magnaflow 2.5" dual in/out. Sounded great! I switched over to a spintech 3.5" single in/out and it's about the same, only louder. If anyone wants my old magnaflow...

Hand made by me! Cool Cool Cool No one makes one that close together, it keeps the two 2.5" pipes up in the torque tube area, nearly the same place as the stock pipe was.

Managed to go get the car today. Was thinking about waiting for the roads to dry out, but forecast for tomorrow is rain/snow, so just went for it.

Initial impressions: Car revs SO much faster now! Compared to before I'm making +50rwhp at 6000 rpm, way more power from 4000 rpm on. Car sounds absolutely wicked! Here's a small movie I made, exhaust gasses blew over the camera!

nice. I think we can conclude that the S&P mid-length headers were not the source of restriction. A little port on the heads and you would be closer to 400whp

They weren't before, they are now. To get more power now would require long tube headers. Luckily I'm where I want to be, if I add long tube headers now I'd have to go up a time trial class, which I don't want to do. Next class up has 996 GT3's, C6 Z06's, etc.

Hey Docwyte,

What is the calculation you need to meet? Is it power/weight?

From day one, I have been shooting for a certain power/weight with my project. I just do DE, so my goals are not to meet a certain class but simply to know where my car's capability should put me in relation to other cars I'm typically running with in my group.

My last DE car was a '90 964 with 227hp at the wheels and with fuel, me and a student riding - I'd guess somewhere in the 3,300+ lb range.

For this LS car, I was shooting for the same power/weight as a C6 Z06. Here's a list I made, and where the car I built lines up. I just corner balanced the car and it's 2,750 with 1/2 tank. I was hoping for less weight (it's a non-sunroof NA) with no accessories. Here's where it stands.

Weight HP P/W
C6 Z06 3,485 505 6.90
C6 ZR1 3,366 638 5.28
R8 5.2 3,905 525 7.44
997 Turbo S3,770 530 7.11
944 LS 2,750 425 6.47
944 NA 2,900 149 19.46
944 Turbo S3,000 249 12.05

BTW, the weights for the first 4 cars in the list are taken from actual weights in a recent R&T article. The NA and Turbo S are guesses.

How do your rules work? Could you post a link?

Thanks,
Dan.

They're the NASA time trial rules, you can find them on the NASA site.

I can't have more than a 8.7 hp/lb ratio, hp is done at the wheels, not crank.

So I can have 370rwhp and competition weight (so car, fuel and me) can't weigh less than 3250 lbs.

I'd be surprised if your 964 with two people and fuel weighed only 3300 lbs unless it was pretty gutted...

My car before the swap, so stock 951 motor with a back half cage, front race seats and no rear seats with 6-7 gallons of fuel weighed 3000 lbs.
