HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Torsion Tube
Well progress on the torsion tube is moving along. It's all layed up and tacked. I will pull the unit out tonight to make the welding a lot more simple. Once that is done, it will be time to cut out the center and fab the plates. If all goes well it should be completed by mid next week. Following that it will be time for final fitment of the other cross member and tack that in, lay up the balance of the cage etc, and weld. once that is done I will set the motor and trans back in to finalize the trans mount.

Incredible project
Don't think I have ever seen so much effort being put into a 924! But great to see that after several years, you still keep working

thank you. I wish my time was better, but raising a family and running a business takes a lot of my time. My goal is to have it sitting on four wheels and running by June.

Re: New convert under way
Still one of my favorite builds to watch. Great job Kevin.
The handling should be incredible with the more weight moved rearwards and wider tires.

Re: New convert under way
I'm still curious what the actual/ideal length will be once your trans is set. You may get lucky and be able to use the C5 axle shafts. Remember, you can trim them down some.

Axles
Rob, that wont be the case. I have had the C5 axles in place with the trans sitting were it needs to be and they stick out into the bearing area of the trailing arms. Now in saying that I don't no how much they can be shortened. They appear hollow but I am going to check that out.

Did some reading today and the C5 axles are solid, so should be able to shorten and have new splines cut in for the 930 CV joint I would think, but I will confirm that hear with my machine shop.

What is your best guesstimate on what the lengths will be end-to-end?

Rob, I will measure the vette axles and provide a guestimate.

Re: New convert under way
It would be where the Tri-lobe sets normally to the CV adapter

Rob my best guess right now would be 18 1/2" the vetted axle is approx 21 1/2" it sat flush plus or minus to the face of the outside edge of the trailing arm. The depth inward to where the axle will sit is about 3 1/4".

Do you have any idea on how many hours you have spent on this project?

Re: New convert under way
The time spent is well worth it when you can say you own/drive one of the baddest 9's on the planet.
Kevin, did that 18.5" dimension account for the CV adapter location?
I will be cutting a set of axles soon for another 928 Z06 trans swap and I can trim a set of those if I have to as they are about 19"

hours
As far as hours go to many. But the r and d takes a lot of time.when I am done I figure with all parts and supplies needed and working on it 8 hours a day you could do this swap in a couple of weeks or less.best guess on hours would be 300 plus.

Re: New convert under way
Yes, the R&D process takes a lot of time. Bolt on and go projects are much easier. I don't know how much time I spent on my straight six project, didn't keep track of time. But nothing was bolt on and go on that project. Well, the engine could be bolted directly to the bell housing, but apart from that, every bit had to be special fabricated.
I'm working on a 25 foot boat, which I'm restoring from A-Z and making changes here and there. That project started 10 years ago. Until now I have spent more than 3300 hours on that (write down every day how much work has been done). When I started that project, I never expected it to be that comprehensive. But well, projects takes time......
