HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Front engine bay. You can see the custom bent hoop to allow the new front end.Next to remove is the front cross piece. There will be a ton of room upfront.

You can see where the 924 motor mount where located.I have made steel plates to reinforce this area from the bottom of the cross member area up on to the frame rails.

Nice! I aways thought the 911 parts would look good. Not after I bought my first 924 I thought about using late 70's 930 slope nose parts.

corvette trans

Post  kevin924kevin on Thu Jul 28, 2011 10:36 am

Hello all, have been researching the corvette transaxle. Has anyone shortened a porsche torquoe tube. I found a nice custom set of rails to support the corvette transaxle. Has anyone cut out the center section of the torsion tube. It appears, with the center removed the corvette transaxle will work. Any thoughts or info would be much appreciated. XS-chop read one of your blogs on a different form, and you where talking about the same idea, any further developments, suggestions. Thanks all in advance for any info.

I know that there is someone that cut the end off of his torque tube shaft and welded on a GM piece. There are also a few that have cut the center out to the torsion tube. One to fit a Small Block Chevy and 930 transaxle in the back seat and the other (that I know of) cut the center out and used a turbocharged AUDI 5 cyl., a Supra trans and rear diff.

It CAN be done. You'll have to U-channel the Torsion Tube and that is actually not difficult to do if you have welding skills. Amazingly the output shafts of the C5 differential will set only 0.375" aft of where the factory ones are set. I've measured everything. I can honestly say now that the 951 trans R&P can handle the abuse of the 5.3 and you probably need to be pushing 450 rwp to warrant the C5 drivetrain. Also the C5 output shafts can have adapters made to stick on the Porsche axles.

And if you are absolutely serious about this, I will build the axle adapters when the time comes. I have a C5 differential in the shop but no output flanges and I know the factory axle dims (85.5-up) to the thousandth Wink

Thank you all

Post  kevin924kevin on Thu Jul 28, 2011 3:04 pm

Thanks guys the info has helped me make my choice. The car will be a daily driver, but i want some fuel savings on the hwy. My torsion tube is all redone and all my brake stuff is new, so i'm glad i can still use these parts The motor is a crate LS3 with stage 2 cam 480hp ad 10% as per gm = 528 HP.Would you happen to no how wide the vette unit is at the point of the torsion tube. I have to do new bearings in my T tube so cutting is good timing. I am going to use Constantines bearings. When i need axles i will be callin, any other info or ideas are much appreciated. Again Thank you.

Just use the ENTIRE C5 drivetrain. You can even mod the shifter location easily.

Torque tube

Post  kevin924kevin on Thu Jul 28, 2011 3:15 pm

I no what your saying but the C5 tube is 8" and would require deeper surgery to the floor pan and tunnel. But i guess if i am cutting away the back floor pan to allow the transaxle to sit approx where factory did, whats a little more cutting.
