HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

968 LS1 Swap
Hello everyone, About 4 years ago I built a 948 and the old forum was very helpful. Now I am switching everything over to my 968 I picked up for $3500.00 and already sold the engine and torque tube for $3100.00. So I am off to a good start. This is a pic of the new project. I will keep you guys updated and if anyone has any questions, or comments I would love to hear them. Thanks

Looks nice. Can't wait for you to finish it. How much did you sell your 3.0l motor for?

Re: 968 LS1 Swap
Right now I am planning on using the running gear, suspension, trans, and brakes from the 951. The only problem I think I will encounter right now is involved with running the 5speed turbo trans because the 968 doesn't have the speedometer pickup on the trans, I think it comes off of the wheel speed sensors. The reason I am running the older stuff is because I want the 5 speed gearing, the LSD, and I have a set of expensive wheels and tires for the old offset. I hope it works out....

Not to bum you out, but the early offset wheels will not work on a late offset car. They would stick out too far.

Re: 968 LS1 Swap
That is why I am running all of the early suspension from my 951 which is currently running those wheels.

No problems then.

Re: 968 LS1 Swap
you got a really good deal on that car. How is the interior? Any crash damage?
I completd a similar install but kept my drivetrain otherwise stock (6 spd, ABS, no-LSD, etc.)
Let me know if I can help but you are probably well on your way since you have already done a 944.
It is amazing how much people are willing to pay for the 3.0l 968 engine. I got around $1600 for my blown long block.

Re: 968 LS1 Swap
The interior is in great shape with the exception of the seats which I already sold. I was going to use the seats from my 944, but.... i just bought a 1985 911 and the seats are now in that car. So I now need seats. No crash damage that I can tell. The only question right now is, how does the speedometer work on the 968? Is it taken from only one of the wheel speed sensors or an average of all of them? I need to figure out how to make that work without using the original hubs w/ wheel speed sensors.

Re: 968 LS1 Swap
I'm afraid that I cannot help much on the Speedo. I do know that it receives a speed signal from the ABS computer via the G16 logic relay. Since both the computer and the logic relay are effectively "black boxes" I have no way to know how they process the speed signal.
A couple thoughts: 1) compare the wiring diagram from an S2 to the 968, since the S2 would have ABS + 5 Spd with speedo pickup on the trany., and 2) consider how difficult it might be to swap the instrument cluster from a post-85 944 to the 968, since the dash panels are the same they should bolt right in. The wire connections may be an entirely different matter. It may also be possible to disect the instrument cluster and install only the speedometer portion from the 944, although my suspicion would be that electromechanically, the speedometers would be the same between the 944 and the 968. If you're lucky, the signals would be the same so that you will only have to mimic the hookup method that was used on the 944. Bottom line: study the wiring diagrams and electrical component part numbers between the two models.
Good Luck!

Re: 968 LS1 Swap
The engine and suspension are out, now it's time to start cutting and removing all the unnecessary brackets. I think I am going to apply all new undercoating while everything is removed from under the car.
Does anyone need a 968 Rear Axle Assembly? I heard it has larger torsion bars!!!

Suspension is installed!!!!!
Now that the suspension is installed and the wheels are on I can roll this thing outside and wash it. Install the transmission, and put the engine back together. That was a lot of work just to be able to use these wheels.
