HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Fuel filter install
I put together a kit to install the fuel filter properly in the original filter place. I will be selling this as a kit on the website in the next week or two.
Original filter

New filter in place

The kit , the hose on the far right is for the engine compartment area, from the factory hard line to the LS fuel rail.

Re: Fuel filter install
Seems like an awesome idea. Is this just because the GM filter is cheaper? Or should I be worried about the porsche filter for another reason?

Depending on the place you purchase the filters, on average the porsche filter is half the price of the chevy filter due to the regulator valve the chevy filter has built in for the return line compared to the straight through porsche one.
But this does clear up complications in routing the fuel lines to the second filter and at the same time frees up engine bay room depending on where you mount you filter at. It becomes a plug and play setup after the filter and you dont have to modify the hard lines near the bay.

Re: Fuel filter install
First off the is no reason the leave the Porsche filter in place and second It does make placement and routing much easier. Why would you do it any other way!
And third for you that have not installed the LS in your car, a Gm filter is nearly a must have item, unless you install an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator.
And forth, It is much safer. If you use the generic connectors from the auto parts store, you run a risk of leaks and other problems. With my set up every thing is race quality. No Generics here!

Makes good sense, I didn't know that.
Thank you admin and cfgioja for the response.

Re: Fuel filter install
Looks great! I had considered doing the same.
Please don't take this as a criticism--i'm really curious--the reason i didn't end up doing this was because:
1. I was worried there would be a drop in pressure with the long line after the outlet of the filter
2. I was worried that the gas would be getting cycled too quickly with the filter next to the tank, adding heat and shortening the pump life.
I highly doubt either of these are actually issues, but...what have you seen? Are you getting full pressure at the rail? Any heat in the fuel that you can tell?

Re: Fuel filter install
There is no problem running it like this, the fuel pressure should not drop unless there is other problems else where in your set up. This set up has been used for quite some time and have had no adverse effects. If there was a problem with the fuel filter being in the back , why did Porsche put it there in the first place?
Where would fuel heating come from? There is not enough restriction in the filter/ regulator to create any heat to heat to consider. I may not be 100% correct , but isn't the filter located on the frame rail in front of the rear tire and just above the Catalytic converter?

Re: Fuel filter install
Yeah, i'm not surprised there are no problems. I just ran mine the way i did because that's how everyone else was doing it at the time! This seems like a much cleaner setup.

Re: Fuel filter install
Yeah, but you're using all AN fittings and good hose--there's a big quality difference!

Re: Fuel filter install
Chris,
I'm using your fuel filter kit for an LS3. I need to get a longer hose to reach the other side of the engine. Your hose's look like they are from Summit. Do you know the part # for that black hose.

Re: Fuel filter install
Eric,
Am I running two fuel filters then? When I replaced my fuel pump I coulda sworn I still had the porsche fuel filter in place. I assume this kit would allow me to clean up the fuel lines/filter etc?

Re: Fuel filter install
Mark,
Rotate your fuel rails 180 and the line will fit.
Doc,
Yes that system will clean up the fuel system hoses , I built that system after I did your car. I got the idea from Tom E. had just built one for his. I just did a similar system on the 928 I'm doing this week.

Re: Fuel filter install
So the new filter mounts where the factory porsche filter is, then the rest of the lines clean up what I've got in the passenger fender area?
Are kits ready to be shipped out? Price?
You're coming out with some cool stuff! What else is on the horizon?
