HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Drivers seat and Tall People
My problem is simple. I'm 6'2". If you don't know what that means in a 944, you don't have one yet. I need to lower the drivers seat to the floor or close to, ideally retaining front/back adjustability.
Is this a solved problem, or will I be posting a how-to on this in the coming months?
My preferred solution is a replacement/modified seat slider for the stock seat. I don't want ricer-looking seat(s) if I can help it.

I am 6'2 too,(well, with my helmet on maby) a quick release and/or a spacer will lay the upper body back a little. Kirkley and Momo build some good race seats that dont look real ricey.

Re: Drivers seat and Tall People
Im 6'3" and notice no problems and have owned and driven my 944 since 1998. Is your drivers seat cushion broken in yet?
My seat is the 4 way electronic with 2 levers; one for back rest and the other for fore and aft movement. Its set juuuuusstt right.
As far as lowering the stock seat, not thinking thats possible. Theres nothing to shorten down there.

From Google:
"I used to test cars, and I've never found anything better for my 6'5" frame than a Porsche 944. I didn't even have to put the seat right back. The Toyota Yaris, astonishingly, is also not bad for the size.
Surprisingly, though, it's not really the leg room that matters. You can drive a car fairly safely even with your legs bent, as I've had to do with some, particularly Alfa Romeos. Headroom is key, for safety as well. If you're looking through the top quarter of the windscreen, it's too little. I found this on most BMWs and Jaguars."

Maybe I'll get used to it, but I'm used to a C5. We'll see how it goes. Planning to focus on forward motion before "pretty," "nice stereo," and "looks pretty." Just trying to think ahead.

I am 6'3 and love the fit in mine, which I have owned since 2001. Like Michael I have the power adjustable, could the height adjustment make the diff?
In my MKII Scirocco my head was very close to the roof. I modified the factory seat by shaving the lower pad in half and slightly bent the outer lower side supports outward. I used a hotwire to cut the foam, but a sharp blade or electric carving knife will work too.

I have a large'ish frame (ex-outside linebacker), and am impressed with the Sparco Chrono Road seats.
Very comfortable, and don't have your head rubbing on the headliner. Manual sliders though and none of the creature comforts that come with the stock seats.

Re: Drivers seat and Tall People
Skywalker, how do those seats fit in the 944? Any problems with the width?
Could you fit 2 side by side? can you still get to the parking brake handle? close the door without the shoulder bolsters hitting the b piller/window??
Thanks,

Seats fit great! I suggest getting the optional sliders and mounts, but you can probably make the mounts yourself with scrap steel you may have in your garage (and save yourself the $75 for a really low-tech solution). The side bolsters provide a lot of support and do not dig into the back of your shoulders (if you are wide through the shoulders). Here are some shots.

Found them on that wonder of modern technology, EBay, for 450 bucks from Kurumamotoring. I'm sure there are others that sell them as well.

Re: Drivers seat and Tall People
Those look great, I am toying with reupholstering the stock seats or new ones, but not being able to test sit, make that risky.
I am 6'5" and fit nicely in the 944. Headroom, low butt end, shoulder width, As a matter of fact on the drive back from purchasing the car in NY to Texas, both myself and my co driver are 6'5 and 230 or greater, and we fit fine, until the driver seat stuck in the up position one day, that was fun.

Seat spec's for 944 and 2003 996 TT
Hey
does anyone have the seat specs for or know if /how the seats from a 2003 996 TT will fit into a 944 Turbo.
I have a chance to pick up a pair, power seats in good condition.
Thanks

I'm 6'4" and fit just fine in my car too. I usually have to take the sunroof out for the helmet though

Re: Drivers seat and Tall People
Wow, I've started a rambling thread about changing seats and just read this, thought, "no problem, let me go look at the seats I just took out. I'll post pics on how to lower them." Walked over to the seats and stood there staring at them for a minute... no... I can't see how it can be easily lowered. I'm 6' and barely fit well head-wise. Went to look at the rail bolt areas: you know, being Germans (usually quite tall) that designed these cars, you'd think they'd have not made the seat rail bolt areas raised on average 1". Well, you could take your seats out, grind those areas down and bolt through the base of the pans.

Re: Drivers seat and Tall People
Your rails sit on top of these(ignore the dirt; this is from an '83 and I spilled so much coffee on that side for so many years... anyway, being cleaned up). It's a good 1" bump overall in the back and it seems like a little more in the front:
Edit: grinding any of that down will probably mess up the structural integrity though... at least in the front.
