HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: Leaking Slave Cylinder (clutch)
Were assuming a C5 internal style slave cylinder here?

Aftermarket line kit? The O-ring insert on the feed line could be crimped.

C5
Its either a C5 or an S10.
I'm using an aftermarket line to the MC. It appears to be leaking from the line end, but the Quicktime bellhousing will need to come off first (engine removal etc.) I am also reading on another forum that the Spec clutch might need measuring and shimming to avoid over running the slave and popping the seal. No good news.

Re: Leaking Slave Cylinder (clutch)
If you are using the spec clutch you have to use the shim that comes with it for the C5/S10 slave cylinder. If you get it apart and do not have one in there give me a shout. I have a few and can get more.
Thanks
Its been many months since I did the install. Do you have a picture of a shim? That might jog my memory. Gene

Re: Leaking Slave Cylinder (clutch)
Hey Gene, thought you were running the C5 2 piece BH with my adapter plate. So you'll have to remove the engine? That sucks. It is a crap shoot with the Spec clutch and the shimming being correct if you cannot visually measure the PP spline engagement with the TO bearing. Sad but true.

I'm curious what they look like too, and i think i'm going to need one!

Here's a photo of the shim.

My setup is the same as yours, Spec clutch + S10 cylinder with the Wilwood MC. My car isn't on the road yet, but will report back if the slave leaks. As of now it's bled and the clutch action seems fine. I checked slave install instructions and don't see the total travel listed. So, not sure just how far it goes before over-travel.
BTW, one idea to consider. Instead of removing the motor you might cut the shim down the middle. If you release the pressure on the slave you could likely slip each half of the shim under w/o pulling the motor.
Hope this helps.

Leaking Slave
Thanks Dan. Your suggestion is welcomed, but I have a Quicktime BH installed. Since it is one piece, the engine must come out.

Re: Leaking Slave Cylinder (clutch)
Hey Guys. I've always wondered about the S10 TO bearing. The C5 TO bearing has an internal catch that doesn't let it over extend. So are you guys saying the S10 TO bearing can go past it normal resting point when fully extended?
BTW Dan, that is a good idea with slotting the spacer plate.

Re: Leaking Slave Cylinder (clutch)
I don't know if it's over-extending or not. I'm using the 2-piece bellhousing and can check to see if it leaks when the pedal is depressed all the way. If it is a problem another option may be adjustment of the pushrod and pedal.
Sorry about the 1 - piece bellhousing thing, are you sure there's not enough adjustment available in the pedal and pushrod?
Again, I'll report back if mine leaks.
Dan.

Re: Leaking Slave Cylinder (clutch)
I still have never seen or heard of confirmation that the S10 TO bearing has the same height dimensions and stroke length from top to bottom as the C5 TO bearing. By default the S10 TO bearing should have the same catch mechanism and it should install compressed against the PP splines just like the C5 TO bearing.
