Hey everyone, I am new to this forum. I managed to do a ls1 conversion on my first gen or 1/85 844. I order the complete kit from RH. I am living in Stillwater Oklahoma at the moment, only 20 mins from hallett race way and wouldn't mind seeing other 944s

I am having some trouble getting my gauges to work properly. I am not sure what is going on, I am most likely goign to have to run stand alones to each guage.

So first my coolant gauge sits at the halfway point when i turn the car ...

We turned the wheels and the moaning got louder (if this was only so easy with women)

When we went to stops we blew the PS seals on the power side.

We checked and we believer we have fluid flow through the reservoir

On thier website they note a bunch of conversion clutch options. Unfortunitly none of the options were populated with data. I contacted them directly to find out what they could do for the 944 conversion. It turns out that one of the guys there is doing a 1987 951 conversion of his own!

I found a post on another site that deals with this and even has a short clip. Here is the link: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/manual-transmission/980305-oil-leak.html

I will replace the seal and the plug at the same time. I understand that there is a tool needed for the seal.... Could use some more direction on this.

If you need to hook up an aftermarket temp gauge to your LS motor you will soon find that there is not many choices out there. Unless you want to special order a sending unit that will thread into the LS head(12mmx1.5)

I bought an off the shelf gauge this weekend and installed it using a factory PCM temp sending unit. You cannot use the same sensor as the computer reads as it will confuse the computer, You ...

Well, this is what Ive found during getting the clutch stuff. May help someone else.

The flywheel:

GM part number 12571611

This flywheel is steel and heavy @ 57 lbs. Its friction surface is 2.50" wide and the stock size clutch disc used on this flywheel is 11-7/16". However, nobody makes an 11-7/16" 23 spline by 1" disc. So the best Ive found is an 11" x1"-23 spline. A 12" disc wont fit either! What you CAN do is buy a 12" disc and then have ...

Is there a preferred ECU to run with the 5.3L conversion? Is there a preferred wire harness?
My understanding is that any of the LS1 or Vortec ECUs can be flashed to run the 5.3L. Is this true?
I also understand that the truck and car harnesses differ in that the injector plugs are different and the truck harness stays under the hood while the car harness places the ECU inside the passenger compartment.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.
So, eh hem, you switched to an LS engine. Have you driven it yet? Why make the switch? I'm curious. I like my LT but as LS engines get cheaper, it would probably be easy for me to switch over... or will it. Will the LT bell housing work with the LS?

Anyway, why the switch (stinker)? Will it be that much better?

The slave already has a short braided input line that has a proprietary GM fitting on the end of it (prevents air from getting in to the system when unplugged), and the return line has a weird machined hex-head fitting with a hole on the end.

Ok, the tach worked before the conversion. I found the wire on pin 3 of the center cluster plug. The ecm has 1.3volts at idle to ground (computer case) But tach still doesn't work. Am I missing something here? Does tach need something else. My tach is wired into a 4 pin red plug (pin#2 grn/bk)on the passenger side.I disconnected the plug from the harness going to the Porsche engine. All I should have to due is hook the tach wire from the ecm to it? No dice.Any ideas?

Allright here's my solution to this problem...

To get the LS Intake on the 4.8/5.3/6.0 motors, I ran into the problem of the water snout on the truck motor sticking up and interfering with the throttle body. No big deal, I get the C5 Corvette water pump and move on because the water snout sticks straight out and clears the throttle.

After sticking on the C5 pump here's what I ran into. The C5 Water pump drive-bell sets too far back towards the block, not allowing the Serpentine belt to ride ...

I am actively looking for the car that will be the base of the LSx swap. I have a couple of questions.

I have gathered that a 1987 and up Turbo would be the most preferred car to swap the LS into. But is it true that the S2 has the same drivetrain (excluding engine) as the Turbo? The S2 has the same spindles / brakes as the Turbo.

So I guess the real question is, beside the engine and exterior cosmetics, are the Turbo and S2 the same?

Thoughts?

I am new to the board and will be doing my first 944 LSx conversion.

My main concern with doing the conversion in california is getting through the smog inspection. Has anyone here been through the process? If so, could you please shed some light on what I will be in for with the referee, smog testing, etc? Anyone put together a build list specifically for the CA build?

Is it true that the engine that is used must be from the same class vehicle (can not use a truck engine)?

Any recommendations on oil lines? Our lines come pretty close to the headers. Anyone not have any problems? What mfg are your lines? The ones I've seen are only rated for 250f. The headers might get them hotter than that.(sitting in traffic) Thanks in adv. Alex
