For those of us running stock turbo brakes.

Post  Arthropraxis on Thu Nov 05, 2009 11:29 am

I emailed Tilton and they suggested a front MC of 5/8" and rear 13/16" for a 1987 944 turbo setup.

originally I was told 5/8" front for the 4x42 lexus calps and 1" for the lexus 4x42 calps in the rear. Now I have been told to put 7/10" on the same front lexus 4x42 calps and 1" rear for the RX7 3x36mm calps....
"to keep it balanced".....

Also as per experience. Tilton does not supply the nuts that bolt the Ind. cylinders to the 72-650 housing. I measured them to be 3/8 x 24 and you will need 4 of them with lockwashers....FYI

LT1 said....... "2 for each front and 1 for both rears"

Let me get this straight.... So the long tube coming out of the top firewall closest to fender is the one for the rear brakes and the other 2 are for left and right front caliper feeds and they need to be tied together?

The rear line and front right lines are both routed from the master together through the firewall, in between the heater housing and firewall to the right side of the car, through the firewall again, into the front right wheel-well where the front right line connects to the front right brake hose while the rear line goes under the car and back to the rear to a distribution block.

Im clear for take off. What is the size of the 944 hard line fittings? And how are people tieing the 2 front together?

I didn't use the dual m/c obviously, but Autozone or any auto parts store sells brass T's. Just used one of those...

Ohh Ohh, I bought a T from a 80's BMW 5 series out of pick-n-pull.

Complete Bolt-On is finalized

Post  xschop on Fri Nov 06, 2009 7:38 pm

Final billet housing and firewall plate pre-heated then Tig-welded with 1/2" welds because of the thick billet used. I made the pushrods out of 4130 steel. Everything bolts right up and will take a ton of force...Literally...
I only have 1 set unaccounted for and will only make these in runs of 3 or more...

As soon as the Polyurethane bushings show up I will assemble your set. What color is your car again, you want them in Krylon Blue LOL...... I like the Krylon Yellow, cheap bling-bling and looks good with black and billet.
I ordered the plate for the simple MC pushrod conversion kit. I need to get a heads-up on that now that you remind me....

Got my mount in today

Post  Arthropraxis on Thu Nov 12, 2009 6:39 pm

It is a very nice piece of work. The welds are perfect like a roll of nickles. It seems like I saw it somewhere but now I can't find it, what hardware should I use to mount it to the firewall?

3 bolts

Post  xschop on Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:37 pm

2 bolts........5/16" x 1" long
1 bolt.........5/16" x 1.5" long Goes thru thickest part of plate and housing.
and washers behind firewall is a must, might as well throw on 3 lockwashers up front.
Don't forget the stock pedal clevis to Tilton Heim centers should be 125mm C2C. It is easiest to install the pushrod setup on the Tilton hosing, then go under the floorboard and run your clevis pin through after you have drilled your pedal upwards 1 to 1.1". I had to trim the Willwood MC pushrods down exactly .5" and everything bolted up like it came from the factory. Maybe Tilton MC' Pushrods are shorter, I'm not sure, just make sure the individual MC's are setting flat on the 72-650 housing and their respective pushrods are in their relaxed position....

For everyone asking, I am building more of these this week and will have them ready by the end of next week after my trusted welder does his magic....Please respond to http://www.944v8s.com/Products.html
I do not expect to have more than a 2-week lead time on anything offered on the new site....Xschop

Re: Tilton Dual MC Setup

If you previously had the stock 944 MC on the cereal bowl and you have already fatigued your firewall sheetmetal....here's an idea for you. Later I will modify this setup to adapt to the WILWOOD 260-7563 MANUAL MASTER CYLINDER CONVERSION PLATE & PUSHROD.....http://www.944v8s.com/Products.html

As for now, I think it would be overkill for the Tilton Dual MC Setup, but here's a look at what I will make...
Double adjustable heim joints with tension preload. This will fix any firewall flex problems....
