RX7 Caliper Swap

Post  xschop on Tue Nov 03, 2009 12:48 pm

I will be working on the rear Big Brake upgrade to compliment the Lexus Front swap soon. I'm diggin these calipers, just like the Lexus Ls430 calp, these are substantial and lightweight all alloy .....and 160 bucks for the pair loaded with pads... Cool Stay tuned

Looks good!

Just out of curiosity, why are we not just bolting front 951 calipers on the rear?

Chop's reasoning........160 bucks for the pair loaded with pads...NIB and included shipping! Cool

Ohh, i see! Are the front 951 calipers that expensive?
Anyways, i guess it makes more sense if you don't already have a set of 951 calipers Smile

Rebuilt 951 calps and new pads are up there....$$$
My trusty swap manual is at home. What are the 951 front piston sizes again?
Also, anyone know the 951 pad dims?
On top of that another 7-8mm can be trimmed off the face of the RX7 calps if needed for more rim clearance, but looking at the 951 front calp pics, those calps accept a wider rotor and look like there is less rim clearance on those even in that dimension.

I found the info I needed on piston sizes, I just am curious what the brake pad size comparison is between rear Brembo Turbo calipers and these RX7 calipers....

Porsche Piston Sizes for Early Brembo Calipers......

928 86- VIN#F 92GS8 61000 - model year 87: Front Caliper 42mm and 36mm
Rear Caliper 30mm and 28mm
88 Front Caliper 44mm and 36mm
Rear Caliper 30mm and 28mm

930 and Carrera Turbo look: Front calipers: all 38mm pistons
Rear Calipers: all 30mm pistons

944 Turbo:

Front Calipers:
'86 Turbo 38mm and 36mm
'87-88 Turbo 40mm and 36mm
'88 Turbo S 44mm and 36mm
'89 944 S2 up to VIN # >> 94KN4 51880 40mm and 36mm

Rear Calipers:
'86-88 Turbo and Turbo S 30mm and 28mm
'89 S2 up to VIN #>>94KN4 51880 30mm and 28mm

EDIT: I just checked and the RX7 calps are tapped M10 x 1.0 for the stock 944 brake lines even Very Happy
